It’s widely accepted in the technological sector the importance of, not only the knowledge, but also skills and competencies. The employers look for candidates able to work in a team, able to approach the problems, with the capacity to analyse and resolve problems, under the constant renewal of knowledge and competencies. Due to this question introducing key skills into the objectives of higher education studies has become inevitable. Although the concept of key skills is a bit confuse for teachers, due to the high dispersion that can be found in the bibliography. Moreover, there is not a standardized way to integrate the skills through each subject contents. In this communication we intend to give some guides to the academic staff in order to clarify the concept of key skills. On the other hand, we will discuss about how to distribute the main ones through the curriculum and how to assess and measure the level acquired by the students.

The development and assessment of not only the knowledge but also the skills and competences in higher education students has become very important nowadays. One powerful way to develop generic competences in students is proposing them activities that lead to its improvement. Professors should design activities oriented to both the development of generic competences and the understanding and practice of specific knowledge within the subject that they are teaching.

The goal of this study was to examine the eff ects of three diff erent scorelines (1 Goal Up, Level Score, 1 Goal Down) on match performance indicators in elite soccer. Ball possession decreased when teams were 1 goal up. High Range Budget Clubs (HRBC) and Upper-Mid Range Budget Clubs (UMRBC) dominated possession against their opponents whether winning, losing, or drawing. Lower- Mid Range Budget Clubs (LMRBC) and Low Range Budget Clubs (LRBC) had less possession than HRBC. The probability of reaching the fi nal one-third of the pitch decreased when teams were 1 goal up. LMRBC and LRBC had less match fi nal third entries than HRBC. Similarly, shots on goal decreased when teams were 1 goal up. These fi ndings could be used by coaches and match analysts when they evaluate performance and develop training drills.

The purpose of this study was to establish the anthropometric and physical profiles of elite young soccer players according to their playing position, and to determine their relevance for the selection process. One hundred and fifty-six young male soccer players participated in the study. Players were classified into the following groups: Goalkeepers (n=16), Central Defenders (n=26), External Defenders (n=29), Central Midfielders (n=34), External Midfielders (n=28), and Forwards (n=23). Anthropometric variables of participants (body height, body mass, body mass index, 6 skinfolds, 4 diameters, and 3 perimeters) were measured. Participants performed the Yo-Yo test, sprint tests (30 m flat sprint and Balsom agility test) and 2 jump tests (countermovement jump and the Abalakov test). At the end of the season, the technical staff of the club selected some of the players to continue playing on the same team and the rest were not selected. The results show that heavier and taller outfield players performed better in vertical jumps and sprint tests, whereas leaner outfield players performed better in the Yo-Yo test. Fat percentage of selected players was lower than that of the non-selected ones. The rest of the body components were similar in the selected and non-selected players within each playing position. In patients with cystic fibrosis (CF), physical capacity (PC) has been correlated with mortality risk. In turn, PC is dependent on genetic factors. This study examines several polymorphisms associated with PC and health-related phenotype traits (VO2peak, FEV1, FVC, PImax and muscular strength) in a group of children with CF (n = 66, primary purpose). The same analyses were also performed in a control group of healthy children (n = 113, secondary purpose). The polymorphisms determined were classified as muscle function polymorphisms (ACE rs1799752; AGT rs699; ACTN3 rs1815739; PTK2 rs7843014 and rs7460; MSTN rs1805086; TRHR rs7832552; NOS3 rs2070744) or energy metabolism polymorphisms (PPARGC1A rs8192678; NRF1 rs6949152; NRF2 rs12594956; TFAM rs1937; PPARD rs2267668; ACSL1 rs6552828). No significant polymorphism/phenotype correlations were detected in children with CF, with marginal associations being observed between NOS3 rs2070744 and VO2peak and FEV1, as well as between PPARGC1A rs8192678 and FEV1. Overall, similar findings were observed in the control group, i.e., no major associations. The PC-related polymorphisms examined seem to have no effects on the PC or health of children with CF.

The aim of this study is to analyse the distances travelled by professional players in friendly matches using individualized intensity thresholds and to differentiate them by specific playing positions, in order to use the results of the competition as a reference for the subsequent analysis of task and training sessions conducted using GPS technology. 21 professional field players (28 ± 3.8 years, 179 ± 4.5 cm, 4.2 kg 75.2 ±) have been monitored using 10 Spi Elite units with GPS receiver, triaxial accelerometer and integrated HR chip receiver (GPSports Systems, Pty. Ltd., 2003, Australia). The results are shown for half of the match. The total average distance covered (DTOT) has been 5052 ± 536m, the distance travelled at a speed higher than vVO2max (DAI) is 351 ± 175m, the distance above the maximum speed threshold (Dist. Z6) is 42 ± 37m. We conclude that: considering the differences observed between players and between positions on the distance travelled in different specified areas, it highlights the importance and the need to individualize the monitoring of the competition, in order to individualize the training monitoring, and properly prepare the players according to the demands of competition.

Nowadays higher education teachers are getting involved in motivating students to acquire significative learning throughout their life, as a contribution to their personal growth. To achieve this objective, specific teacher training in developing emotional competences in the teachers becomes necessary. The teacher, consciously or unconsciously, creates a work climate in the classrooms which affects to the learning outcomes. Though, students’ motivation is affected by the teacher behavior, his proximity to the student, his ability to manage emotions, to empathize and to communicate effectively. Non-verbal aspects are undoubtedly relevant in this process. However, teachers receive non significative experiential training on somatic aspects concerning the presence and expression of the body in the classroom. This paper presents the preliminary results of implementing an experiential learning program focused on body awareness and non-verbal communication. This enactive learning allows to improve teaching competencies related to emotional intelligence (intra and interpersonal).

The purpose of the present research was to study the organic response after ultraendurance cycling race. Selected biochemical, leg strength, flexibility, and aerobic capacity parameters were analyzed in 6 subjects 5 days before and 5 days after completing a 1700 km ultraendurance cycling race. After the race, participants presented a significant decrease in Hb (167.8 ± 9.5 versus 141.6 ± 15.7 mg/dL), strength (29.4 ± 2.7 versus 25.5 ± 3.7 cm in a countermovement jump), and oxygen uptake and heart rate at ventilatory threshold (1957.0 ± 458.4 versus 1755.2 ± 281.5 mL/kg/min and 140.0 ± 9.7 versus 130.8 ± 8.3 bpm, resp.). Testosterone presented a decrease tendency (4.2 ± 2.5 versus 3.9 ± 2.6 ng/L) in opposition to the increase tendency of cortisol and ammonium parameters. Transferrin and iron levels presented high values related to an overstimulation of the liver, a normal renal function, a tendency to decrease flexibility, and an increase in aerobic capacity, finding a tendency to increase the absolute maximal oxygen uptake (37.2 ±2.4 versus 38.7 ± 1.8 mL/min) in contrast to previous studies conducted with subjects with similar age. These results can be used to program training interventions, recovery times between probes...

The objective of the present study was to analyse the autonomic response of trained swimmers to traditional and reverse training periodization models. Seventeen swimmers were divided in two groups, performing a traditional periodization (TPG) or a reverse periodization (RPG) during a period of 10 weeks. Heart rate variability and 50 m swimming performance were analyzed before and after the training programs. After training, the TPG decreased the values of the high frequency band (HF), the number of differences between adjacent normal R-R intervals longer than 50 ms (NN50) and the percentage of differences between adjacent normal R-R intervals more than 50 ms (pNN50), and the RPG increased the values of HF and square root of the mean of the sum of the squared differences between adjacent normal R-R intervals (RMSSD). None of the groups improved significantly their performance in the 50-m test. The autonomic response of swimmers was different depending on the periodization performed, with the reverse periodization model leading to higher autonomic adaption. Complementary, the data suggests that autonomic adaptations were not critical for the 50-m swimming performance.
