This dissertation aims to evaluate Walt Disney Company (ticker: DIS US Equity). The evaluation process is done through three different mechanisms in order to achieve a more accurate and complete valuation exercise. The first valuation method is the Discounted Cash Flows model, in which each company’s segment is valued separately, therefore obtaining the company’s overall valuation by combining them all. This model provides a Walt Disney share price estimation of $88,52 which, compared to its market price of $85,38, represents a buying opportunity. The second valuation method is the Economic Value Added model. Through this valuation technique, the Walt Disney share price is estimated as of $77,89 which, compared to its market price, represents a selling opportunity. The third and last valuation method presented is the relative valuation. By applying the Enterprise Value to EBITDA multiple, it is achieved a company share price of $83,96 which also represents a selling opportunity. Lastly, it is compared the valuation obtained through this dissertation to the one accomplished by J.P.Morgan, in which the Walt Disney share price is estimated as $90,00. By doing so, one can conclude that the valuation in this dissertation is more conservative...

The modified Stroop effect (MSE), in which participants show delayed color naming to trauma specific words is one of the most widely cited findings in the literature pertaining to cognitive bias in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The current study used a novel approach (Dissertation Abstract Review; DAR) to review the presence of the MSE in dissertation abstracts. A review of dissertations that used the modified Stroop task in a PTSD sample revealed that only 8% of the studies found delayed reaction times to trauma-specific words in participants with PTSD. The most common finding (75%) was for no PTSD-specific effects in color naming trauma-relevant words. This ratio is significantly lower than ratios found in the peer reviewed literature, but even in the peer reviewed literature only 44% of controlled studies found the modified Stroop effect (MSE). These data suggest that a re-evaluation of the MSE in PTSD is warranted.

Grant writing is a necessary skill for becoming an independent and successful social work researcher. Since social work dissertation grants are a relatively new trend, students face many challenges in identifying, preparing, and submitting dissertation grants. Lack of resources and experiences, difficulties in protecting time for grant writing, and the uncertainty of success can hinder work on dissertation grants. Thus, this article provides an overview of dissertation grants, including a review of grant mechanisms, suggestions for preparing grants in the context of program milestones, and identifying institutional infrastructure to facilitate submissions. Strategies discussed include how to learn about funding priorities, how to establish timelines to account for grant deadlines, and how to use peer reviews to guide the revision process.

Expertise in physics has been traditionally studied in cognitive science, where physics expertise is understood through the difference between novice and expert problem solving skills. The cognitive perspective of physics experts only create a partial model of physics expertise and does not take into account the development of physics experts in the natural context of research. This dissertation takes a social and cultural perspective of learning through apprenticeship to model the development of physics expertise of physics graduate students in a research group. I use a qualitative methodological approach of an ethnographic case study to observe and video record the common practices of graduate students in their biophysics weekly research group meetings. I recorded notes on observations and conduct interviews with all participants of the biophysics research group for a period of eight months. I apply the theoretical framework of Communities of Practice to distinguish the cultural norms of the group that cultivate physics expert practices. Results indicate that physics expertise is specific to a topic or subfield and it is established through effectively publishing research in the larger biophysics research community. The participant biophysics research group follows a learning trajectory for its students to contribute to research and learn to communicate their research in the larger biophysics community. In this learning trajectory students develop expert member competencies to learn to communicate their research and to learn the standards and trends of research in the larger research community. Findings from this dissertation expand the model of physics expertise beyond the cognitive realm and add the social and cultural nature of physics expertise development. This research also addresses ways to increase physics graduate student success towards their PhD. and decrease the 48% attrition rate of physics graduate students. Cultivating effective research experiences that give graduate students agency and autonomy beyond their research groups gives students the motivation to finish graduate school and establish their physics expertise.

Dissertation: "Beyond Familiar Territory" researches various visual and conceptual strategies that facilitate connection between urban-based audiences and peripheral areas of ground where the extraction of mineral resources occurs. The Dissertation is a comparative analysis of selected works by Robert Smithson, Alfredo Jaar, and the Bark Petitions of the Yirrkala people in North East Arnhem Land. The focus is on how these artists have endeavoured to challenge urban audiences, disrupt the perceived hierarchy between centre and periphery, and bridge gaps between urban sites of mineral consumption and overlooked sites of mineral extraction. ¶ "Beyond Familiar Territory" takes the form of this Dissertation (33%), and an exhibition of works at the Canberra Museum and Gallery (CMAG) from 6 February to 21 March, 1999, which, together with the Studio report, documents the outcome of the Studio Practice Component (67%).¶ ...; Note: Author has set his own password.

The communication and information technologies allow the documentation centers, libraries and other information units providers the recording and dissemination of its information. These initiatives were employed in an autonomous manner. As a result, the final users found difficulties in the full access to these information sources. If on the one hand, these technologies facilitate to information providers the record and dissemination in digital format and on the World Wide Web, on the other hand, they also facilitate the development of patterns and protocols which allows the integration of databases. In this context, the Open Archives Initiative was implemented to establish patterns and ideals, which allow the integration of information databases. This initiative came to be initially with the purpose of presenting a new alternative in scientific communication. However, the established patterns may also be used as a tool for the integration of remote databases, reason by which the Brazilian Institute of Information in Science and Technology(IBICT) has been continuously researching and adapting them to the country needs concerning the integrated dissemination of Scientific and Technological Information. The first initiative of IBICT using these patterns was the development and implementation...

Doctoral education (PhD) in the USA has long been characterized as being in a crisis, yet empirical research to identify possible determinants is limited, in particular, faculty competence has received only scant research attention. This study ascertained from students, faculty and consultants, their concerns about the teaching of statistics and research (including dissertation supervision). The responses encompass the curriculum, pedagogy, content knowledge, support, and accountability. The current U.S. doctoral education model needs to be systematically reviewed toward assessing its relevance to the changing needs of the disciplines and the job market. In this regard, the almost universal emphasis on evidence-based practice, especially in the disciplines of health and behavioral sciences must be given major consideration. Reform initiatives must also address the roles and qualifications of dissertation committee members (including consultants), the composition of the dissertation committee, and training geared toward preparing and certifying faculty to serve as dissertation committee members.; Comment: 4 Pages, Refereed Conference Publication

The Department of Translation and Interpreting at the University of Salamanca has now had three years’ experience with the Final Year Dissertation...
