Este trabalho teve como objetivo propor uma metodologia para otimizar o planejamento de processos de montagem final da indústria automotiva. A metodologia proposta foi elaborada com base na revisão bibliográfica e no Mapeamento de Processos Críticos da atividade de planejamento de processos de montagem final durante o desenvolvimento de produtos, tendo como referência a subsidiária brasileira de uma montadora. A metodologia proposta consiste em aplicar o PFMEA (Process Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) associado às seguintes ferramentas de qualidade: Brainstorming, Benchmarking, Lições Aprendidas, Sistemas À Prova de Erros, Diagramas de Causa e Efeito e 5 Por Quês. Neste trabalho foi adotada a realização de uma pesquisa explicativa com metodologia de pesquisa-ação. Foram criados procedimentos para que a metodologia proposta fosse aplicada experimentalmente na unidade de análise deste trabalho. A fase de coleta de dados foi feita através de três estudos de caso. L dI/dt noise due to simultaneous switching of circuits on chips is a growing problem in VLSI design. This kind of noise can lead to timing errors and significant circuit slowdowns, if not kept within reasonable bounds. The most common way of reducing this form of noise is the addition of decoupling capacitance on chip. However, adding decoupling capacitance can take significant area and can make routing very difficult. In this thesis, I designed, implemented, and evaluated the energy consumption of a system that uses a liquid crystal display to perform a one-dimensional transform. The RMS response of the liquid crystal elements themselves were exploited to perform a matrix multiplication (image transformation) over a single frame period. This image transformation was used as the last step of the decompression process in an image processing system. The system was implemented first in Matlab, then as a printed circuit board, and finally as an integrated circuit. While the initial Matlab and printed circuit board implementations looked promising, a number of practical considerations arose during the integrated circuit design that ultimately resulted in moderate performance: 14.3% energy savings.; by Jeremy Zaks Walker.; Thesis (M. Autonomous mapping of large-scale environments has been a critical challenge confronting researchers in mobile robotics. This thesis investigates two aspects of the large-scale simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) problem: (1) the behavior of the covariance matrix in the Kalman filter solution to the linear Gaussian SLAM problem, and (2) the development of new algorithms for efficient large-scale mapping. The key issue motivating study of the linear Gaussian SLAM problem is to understand the behavior of the uncertainty estimates with time. In this thesis, we provide an analysis of the asymptotic behavior of the full covariance SLAM solution. We present a novel generalized closed-form solution to the single degree-of-freedom SLAM problem (known as the MonoRob problem). We examine the cross correlation behavior for the case of observed and non-observed features, and show that a feature must be repeatedly reobserved for it to become fully correlated with other features. Additionally, we provide a new "tight" lower bound for the map uncertainty for a certain class of the MonoRob problem. This work presents an application where Templated Assembly by Selective Removal (TASR) was used to assemble spherical components of two different sizes onto a common substrate according to a specific layout. TASR is a potential rapid, cost effective, and large scale parallel nanomanufacturing method. It consists of patterning a template into shapes complementary to the components to be assembled, and then using adhesion and fluid flow to selectively keep the components in certain locations on the substrate and remove them from all other locations. Adhesion is induced by growing self assembled monolayers (SAMs) on the components and template which are then placed in an assembly mixture of water and acetone. Fluid flow is induced by subjecting the assembly mixture to an acoustic wave generated by an ultrasonic transducer. Assembly is achieved only in the sites which match the shapes of the components, where retention due to adhesion dominates over removal due to fluid flow. The thesis presents an experiment in which TASR is used to assemble 636 nm and 2 glm diameter silica spheres on a silicon oxide layer grown and patterned on a silicon substrate. It is expected that the ability to accurately and efficiently design an imaging system for a specific application will be of increasing importance in the coming decades. Applications of imaging systems range from simple photography to advanced lithography machines. Perhaps the most important way to make an imaging system meet a particular purpose is to engineer the pupil function of the imaging system. This includes designing a pupil surface and often involves the simultaneous design of a post-processing algorithm. Currently these design processes are performed mostly by using numerical optimization methods. Numerical methods in general have many drawbacks including long processing time and no guarantee that one has reached the global optimum. We have developed analytical approaches in designing imaging systems by engineering the pupil function. Two of the most important merit functions that are used for the analysis of imaging systems are the modulation transfer function (MTF) and the point spread function (PSF). These two functions are standard measures for evaluating the performance of an imaging system. Explorations and optimizations through the genomic space are a daunting undertaking given the complexity and size of the possible search space. To approach this problem, systematic and combinatorial approaches were employed for the engineering of cellular phenotype in Escherichia coli. Initially, a computational method based on global cellular stoichiometry was employed to identify single and multiple gene knockout targets for lycopene production in E. coli. These targets led to substantial increases in lycopene production, but were limited in scope due to the nature of these models. Therefore, these approaches and targets were complemented with combinatorial searches to identify unknown and regulatory targets. When combined, these searches led to further increases of lycopene production and allowed for the visualization of the resulting metabolic landscape. A more exhaustive search was conducted in the background of eight genotypes which resulted in the formulation of the gene knockout search network. This network enables the investigation into how phenotype optimization is biased by search strategy.; (cont.) Design of modern mixed signal integrated circuits is becoming increasingly difficult. Continued MOSFET scaling is approaching the global power dissipation limits while increasing transistor variability, thus requiring careful allocation of power and area resources to achieve increasingly more aggressive performance specifications. In this tightly constrained environment traditional iterative system-to-circuit redesign loop, is becoming inefficient. With complex system architectures and circuit specifications approaching technological limits of the process employed, the designers have less room to margin for the overhead of strict system and circuit design interdependencies. Severely constrained modern mixed IC design can take many iterations to converge in such a design flow. This is an expensive and time consuming process. The situation is particularly acute in high-speed links. Measurements of middle ear conducted sound pressure in the cochlear vestibule PV have been performed in only a few individuals from a few mammalian species. Simultaneous measurements of sound-induced stapes velocity VS are even more rare. We report simultaneous measurements of VS and PV in chinchillas. The VS measurements were performed using single-beam laser-Doppler vibrometry; PV was measured with fiber optic pressure sensors like those described by Olson [JASA 1998; 103: 3445-63]. Accurate in-vivo measurements of PV are limited by anatomical access to the vestibule, the relative sizes of the sensor and vestibule, and damage to the cochlea when inserting the measurement device. The small size (170 [mu]m diameter) of the fiber-optic pressure sensors helps overcome these three constraints. PV and VS were measured in six animals, and the middle ear pressure gain (ratio of PV to the sound pressure in the ear canal) and the cochlear input impedance (ratio of PV to the product of VS and area of the footplate) computed. Our measurements of middle ear pressure gain are similar to published data in the chinchilla at stimulus frequencies of 500 Hz to 3 kHz, but are different at other frequencies. This work presents the research carried through in the industrial segment of confection of clothes of the Great Natal whose objective is to show the profile, enterprise and technological management as also the use of simultaneous engineering in the development of products. The research approaches two studies. The first one presents the current picture of the companies, synthesized through twelve variable. As, through fifteen variable it shows to the level of use of Simultaneous Engineering in the Development of Products and its amplitude in relation to the Integrated Management using tools CAD, PDM and ERP (Computer Aided Design, Product Management Date, Enterprise Resource Planning). The integration of these systems acts aiming the reduction of the cost and the development time of products. The reached results indicate that simultaneous engineering is a competitive advantage and becomes possible: to reduce the life cycle of the product, to rationalize the resources, to incorporate one high standard of the quality to the process and product as well as to personalize the product to take care of the global market. Successful translation of experimental therapeutics to the clinical setting will require development of challenging in vivo models which mimic oral and craniofacial wound healing environments, and can accurately assess a construct's angiogenic and osteogenic performance. With the intent of developing an easily accessible and reproducible, non-healing alveolar bone defect in the rabbit, 10-mm diameter partial- and full thickness cylindrical defects were created in the premolar/molar region of the mandible. Microcomputed tomography (micro-CT) and histological analysis of the partial thickness defect demonstrated significant bone formation at 8 weeks, and complete union and contour regeneration at 16 weeks. In contrast, the full thickness defect was never able to bridge itself and only exhibited partial bone regeneration by 16 weeks, demonstrating the potential of the mandibular full thickness defect as a test bed for tissue engineering constructs. A subsequent study examined the use of contrast-enhanced micro-CT to characterize neovascularization in the rabbit alveolar bone defect model. Scaffold-implanted groups were found to have differences in vessel network morphology versus empty defects. These results suggest the rabbit alveolar bone defect model in conjunction with micro-CT imaging is a robust system for evaluating the angiogenic and osteogenic potential of tissue engineering constructs. This thesis presents two topics related to the simultaneous calibration of a network of imaging sensors, i.e. cameras, and the recovery of the trajectory of an object moving among those sensors. The non-overlapping fields of view for the cameras do not cover the entire scene, and therefore there are time steps for which no measurements are available. A Bayesian framework is imposed on the problem in order to compute the MAP (maximum a posteriori) estimate, the solution that maximizes the probability of the sensor network configuration and target trajectory given the measurement set. The first topic discussed is model order reduction to decrease the number of unknown parameters in the motion and measurement models, thereby reducing the computational requirements of the optimization algorithm. It is possible to reduce the dimension of the search space, with no loss in accuracy, by treating the estimation of target's trajectory while it is outside the field of view of the network as an independent sub-problem that can be solved at a later time. In this thesis we present LaSLAT, a sensor network algorithm that uses range measurements between sensors and a moving target to simultaneously localize the sensors, calibrate sensing hardware, and recover the target's trajectory. LaSLAT is based on a Bayesian filter that updates a probability distribution over the parameters of interest as measurements arrive. The algorithm is distributable and requires a fixed amount of storage space with respect to the number of measurements it has incorporated. LaSLAT is easy to adapt to new types of hardware and new physical environments due to its use of intuitive probability distributions: one adaptation demonstrated in this thesis uses a mixture measurement model to detect and compensate for bad acoustic range measurements due to echoes. We present results from a centralized implementation of LaSLAT using a network of Cricket sensors. This thesis has investigated aspects of the design of a new highly maneuverable Autonomous Underwater Vehicle - the XAUV. The overall goal for the design of this vehicle is to create a small, highly maneuverable AUV that can perform autonomous ship hull inspection. Our work towards this goal was targeted to three different aspects: (1) contributions to the conceptual design of the overall vehicle, (2) specification and acquisition of the electronic components of the vehicle, including its main CPU, and (3) mechanical design of selected components, including the ship's hull, servo-controlled fin system, and blazed array sonar nose cone. Advances in Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) have resulted in the deployment of surveillance systems that automatically collect and store extensive network-wide traffic data. Dynamic Traffic Assignment (DTA) models have also been developed for a variety of dynamic traffic management applications. Such models are designed to estimate and predict the evolution of congestion through detailed models and algorithms that capture travel demand, network supply and their complex interactions. The availability of rich time-varying traffic data spanning multiple days thus provides the opportunity to calibrate a DTA model's many inputs and parameters, so that its outputs reflect field conditions. The current state of the art of DTA model calibration is a sequential approach, in which supply model calibration (assuming known demand inputs) is followed by demand calibration with fixed supply parameters. In this thesis, we develop an off-line DTA model calibration methodology for the simultaneous estimation of all demand and supply inputs and parameters, using sensor data. The proliferation of XML during recent years has been aided by an array of powerful companion tools. One such tool, XSL Transformations (XSLTs), has played an important role in XML's adoption, facilitating interoperability by defining general transformations on XML documents. However, despite XSLT's power and flexibility, the transformations can be hard to define, often requiring recursion to perform simple operations. Further, writing XSLTs requires learning its transformation language, distracting from the primary focuses of the input and output. This thesis focuses on streamlining the generation of XSLTs through the use of a programming-by-demonstration (PBD) interface. Instead of directly defining an XSLT, a user begins with the input XML document, converting it to the desired output through text editing. Based on the input XML document, the resulting output document, and the sequence of user edits, an XSLT definition will then be automatically generated.
