Sabendo que as ações de tratamento e controle da tuberculose no Brasil estão inseridas no contexto da atenção primária à saúde, uma vez que é uma doença priorizada pelo Ministério da Saúde pelo considerável acometimento populacional e de fundamental relevância para a saúde pública, propôs-se analisar o vínculo no processo de atenção à TB no município de Ribeirão Preto no período de julho de 2006 a julho de 2007. Para o alcance do objetivo utilizou-se uma abordagem quantitativa, fundamentada na dimensão vínculo. Para a avaliação utilizaram-se indicadores construídos para o vínculo com base nos instrumentos de avaliação rápida da organização e desempenho dos serviços da APS. A população do estudo foi constituída por doentes de TB diagnosticados nos serviços públicos de saúde de Ribeirão Preto. Os dados foram armazenados em uma planilha eletrônica do Microsoft Office Excel 2003 e posteriormente foram transferidos para a tabela de entrada de dados do Software Statistica 7.0 da Statsoft. A ligação entre concretos com cimento Portland de diferentes idades, composições e resistências é um dos problemas da tecnologia dos concretos estruturais. A continuidade desta ligação é prejudicada por uma diversidade de fatores que implicam desde a retomada de uma concretagem (junta fria) até a recuperação de estruturas de concreto deterioradas. Sob esse ponto de vista apresenta−se neste trabalho uma análise do comportamento de um sistema de reparos aplicados à recuperação de estruturas, ligações concretos velhos x concretos novos (caso das ampliações) e continuidades de concretagens. Um dos pontos mais frágeis de uma estrutura é a zona de interface, tanto dos materiais que a compõe quanto da transição entre os diferentes concretos. Este estudo avaliou o efeito do desafio erosivo nas propriedades e na estabilidade de união de materiais restauradores ao esmalte e dentina decídua. Duzentos e quarenta molares decíduos foram alocados em 24 grupos, de acordo com substrato - esmalte ou dentina, condição prévia do substrato - hígido ou erodido, material restaurador - resina composta associada ao sistema adesivo - RC, cimento de ionômero de vidro de alta viscosidade - CIVAV, ou modificado por resina - CIVMR, e tratamento após procedimento adesivo - controle (imersão em solução salina/7dias) ou desafio erosivo (imersão em bebida a base de cola por 5 min/3x ao dia/7 dias). Os dentes dos grupos esmalte e dentina erodidos foram submetidos ao desafio erosivo previamente aos procedimentos restauradores. Cânulas de polietileno foram posicionadas sobre superfícies planas dos substratos pré-tratados, para então serem preenchidas por um dos materiais avaliados. Após armazenamento por 24h a 37°C, os espécimes foram submetidos a um dos tratamentos propostos. O estudo do comportamento de aderência tem recebido grande atenção desde o final da década de 40, entretanto muitas incertezas persistem no que tange à definição do melhor método de ensaio e do desempenho esperado ao longo da vida útil de uma estrutura, especialmente quando a mesma está exposta a condições ambientais desfavoráveis. A corrosão da armadura e a degradação térmica devida à exposição a altas temperaturas são exemplos de situações onde ocorrem importantes modificações nas propriedades dos materiais envolvidos, tendo forte impacto no desempenho da aderência. Tendo em vista que esta é uma propriedade de fundamental importância para a adequada transferência de esforços e compatibilização de deformações entre o concreto e o aço, colaborando para um bom desempenho global da estrutura, o estudo destes efeitos é vital. A degradação hidrolítica dos adesivos dentinários pode infl uenciar a resistência de união das restaurações de resina composta ao longo do tempo. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar a influência do tempo de armazenamento associada à termociclagem e do tipo de adesivo dentinário empregado sobre a resistência de união de restaurações de resina composta. Foram utilizados 20 molares hígidos, os quais foram divididos em 2 tempos de avaliação (24 horas e 6 meses + termociclagem). Cada dente teve a dentina relativa à superfície oclusal exposta, a qual recebeu 3 corpos de prova de resina Flow com os sistemas adesivos: Scotchbond multiuso (3M/ESPE – Grupo 1), ClearFil SE Bond (Kuraray – Grupo 2) e Adper Single Bond (3M/ESPE – Grupo 3). Após o teste de microcrocisalhamento, os dados foram analisados estatisticamente pelos testes ANOVA, Tukey e t-student (α =0,05). Os resultados mostraram que os adesivos Scotchbond multiuso, ClearFil SE Bond e Single Bond não apresentaram diferenças na resistência de união em 24 horas de armazenamento. Após 6 meses, o adesivo ClearFil SE Bond obteve resistência superior ao Scotchbond multiuso. O adesivo Scotchbond multiuso sofreu redução na resistência de união após 6 meses de armazenamento. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of intrapulpal pressure and dentin depth on bond strengths of an etch-and-rinse and a self-etching bonding agent to dentin in vitro and in vivo. Twenty-four pairs of premolars were randomly divided into four groups (n = 6) according to the dentin bonding agent, Single Bond and Clearfil SE Bond, and intrapulpal pressure, null or positive. Each tooth of the pair was further designated to be treated in vivo or in vitro. The intrapulpal pressure was controlled in vivo by the delivery of local anesthetics containing or not a vasoconstrictor, while in vitro, it was achieved by keeping the teeth under hydrostatic pressure. Class I cavities were prepared and the dentin bonding agents were applied followed by incremental resin restoration. For the teeth treated in vitro, the same restorative procedures were performed after a 6 month-storage period. Beams with I mm 2 cross-sectional area were prepared and, microtensile tested. Clearfil SE Bond was not influenced by any of the variables of the study, while bond strengths produced in vitro were significatly higher for Single Bond. Overall, lower bond strengths were produced in deep dentin, which reached statistical significance when Single Bond was applied under physiological or simulated intrapulpal pressure. The purpose of our investigation is to compare the intrapulpal temperature changes following blue LED system and halogen lamp irradiation at the enamel surface of permanent teeth. The fixation of brackets using composite resin is more comfortable and faster when using a photo-curable composite. Several light sources can be used: halogens, arc plasma, lasers, and recently blue LED systems. An important aspect to be observed during such a procedures is the temperature change. In this study, we have used nine human extracted permanent teeth: three central incisors, three lateral incisors, and three canines. Teeth were exposed to two light sources: blue LED system (preliminary commercial model LEC 470-II) and halogen lamp (conventional photo-cure equipment). The surface of teeth was exposed for 20, 40, and 60 sec at the buccal and lingual enamel surface with an angle of 45 degrees. Temperature values measured by a thermistor placed at pulpar chamber were read in time intervals of 1 sec. We obtained plots showing the temperature evolution as a function of time for each experiment. There is a correlation between heating quantity and exposition time of light source: with increasing exposition time, heating increases into the pulpal chamber. Este trabalho apresenta o desenvolvimento de fases estacionárias (FE) para utilização em Cromatografia Líquida de Alta Eficiência em Fase Reversa (CLAE-FR) a partir da imobilização térmica de poli (2-fenilpropil) metilsiloxano (PFPMS) sobre suporte de sílica. Diferentes quantidades de copolímero foram avaliadas, alcançando-se um bom desempenho cromatográfico com uma carga polimérica de 50 % (m/m, polissiloxano/sílica). As melhores condições de temperatura e tempo para a imobilização do copolímero sobre o suporte por tratamento térmico foram: 140 ºC e 6 h, respectivamente. A extração do excesso de copolímero não imobilizado também foi otimizada, obtendo-se o melhor resultado com a utilização de clorofórmio por 3 horas, seguido de metanol por 2 horas, ambos a uma vazão de 1 mL min. A caracterização físico-química do suporte de sílica, copolímero e da FE através de análise elementar, espectroscopia de absorção na região do infravermelho e determinação da área superficial específica, volume e diâmetro de poros das partículas indicam a presença do copolímero sobre o suporte e a espectroscopia de ressonância magnética nuclear sugere que o copolímero se encontra sorvido e quimicamente ligado ao suporte de sílica. Masonry elements with structural purposes can be found not only in historical heritage constructions, but also in residential buildings constructed during the last decades. With the aim of making these structures less vulnerable to seismic events, several strengthening techniques have been developed. One technique, recently considered of great potential, is based on the application of mortar and a FRP mesh embedded in that layer. The simple procedure of application and the use of relatively affordable materials seem to lead to economically competitive retrofitting solutions with great performance. In this paper the in-plane monotonic and cyclic characterization by means of diagonal tensile test of a high ductility strengthening system is presented. The discussion of results is mostly focussed on the analysis of the vulnerabilities of the masonry strengthening system, particularly regarding the behaviour of the interface between the overlay and the retrofitted substrate.

Pastelike materials are encountered in many technological processes in chemical, pharmaceutical, foodstuff and natural product industries. The most important factor in the drying of this type of materials is the nature of the moisture bonding that occurs. Because of the different characteristics of pastes, it is impossible to recommend a universal type of dryer for all of these materials. Some of the dryers available provide only indirect contact with the drying agent (heat) and also maintain constant moisture with a system of rotating paddles. We evaluated the performance of this type by studying the dryer kinetics curves for ground coffee under a variety of operational conditions of moisture load of material, temperature of the heating plate, intensity of the mechanical mixing of the moisture material, and initial moisture. The effects of these parameters (except for moisture) were studied using a 2³ factorial design. According the analyses of the kinetics drying curves, was observed that the increase in the temperature of the plate and rotation as well as the decrease in the load facilitates more effective removal of moisture. In statistical analysis was determined that the load of the material and the heating plate temperature influence the final moisture content of the material and plate temperature modifies the final temperature of the solid. INTRODUCTION: LED light-curing devices seek to provide a cold light activator which allows protocols of material polymerization with shorter duration. OBJECTIVE: The present study aimed to evaluate the shear bond strength of bracket bonding using three types of light-curing devices: One with halogen light (Optilight Plus - Gnatus) and two with LEDs (Optilight CL - Gnatus and Elipar Freelight - 3M/ESPE). RESULTS: Comparing the results by analysis of variance, the Gnatus LED device showed an inferior statistical behavior in relation to other light sources, when activated by a short time. But, when it was used for 40 seconds, the polymerization results were consistent with the other evaluated sources. The device with the best average performance was the halogen light, followed by the 3M/ESPE LED. CONCLUSION: It was concluded that the LEDs may be indicated in orthodontic practice, as long as a protocol is used for the application of light with the activation time of 40 seconds.

During restorative procedures, different isolation methods of the operative field can be used to promote moisture control and retraction of the gingival tissues. The aim of the present clinical trial was to evaluate the effects of two isolation techniques on the clinical performance of Class V restorations, as well on the periodontal conditions of restored sites. Patients presenting at least two noncarious cervical lesions (NCLs) were enrolled in this study. The NCLs were randomized into the following groups: (1) isolation performed with rubber dam and gingival retraction clamp and (2) isolation provided with cotton rolls and gingival retraction cord. Both techniques were used with a saliva suction device. All restorative procedures were performed using a selfetching adhesive system and a nanofilled composite resin according to the manufacturer s instructions. To what extent can different forms of social capital help immigrants make headway on the labour market? An answer to this pressing question begins here. Taking the Netherlands and Germany as case studies, the book identifies two forms of social capital that may work to increase employment, income and occupational status and, conversely, decrease unemployment. New insights into the concepts of bonding and bridging arise through quantitative research methods, using longitudinal and cross-sectional data. Referring to a dense network with ‘thick’ trust, bonding is measured as family ties, coethnic ties and trust in the family. Today, mine reclamation is a key component to a successful mine plan. Most of the industrialized nations have recognized the need to make mining activities relatively environmentally friendly, if they want to continue to benejt from the economic gains from mineral resource development. Countries such as the United States, Canada, Australia and South Africa are leaders in the j e l l and have implemented relatively sophisticated legislation to ensure environmentally correct mine closure. These countries rely on a combination of strict control strategies and economic penalties to ensure compliance. Yet, from the firm's perspective, reclamation activities are counterproductive as they cut into propjets. In order to attract economic development and earn much needed economic capital, most of the rest of the world, articularly the developing countries, lack effective mine closure legislation. The traditional command and control type of legislation that is sometimes used is either vague and therefore avoided, or not enforced appropriately, resulting in an undesirable level of environmental degradation. With the use of case studies from Brazil, this article shows that direct controls are effective in some instances and not in others. Objective: This study evaluated the performance of different adhesive systems in fiber post placement aiming to clarify the influence of different hydrophobic experimental blend adhesives, and of one commercially available adhesive on the frictional retention during a luting procedure. Material and Methods: One luting agent (70 Wt% BisGMA, 28.5% TEGDMA; 1.5% p-tolyldiethanolamine) to cement fiber posts into root canals was applied with 4 different adhesive combinations: Group 1: The etched roots were rinsed with water for 30 s to remove the phosphoric acid, then rinsed with 99.6% ethanol for 30 s, and blot-dried. A trial adhesive (base to catalyst on a 1: 1 ratio) was used with an experimental luting agent (35% Bis-GMA, 14.37% TEGDMA, 0.5% EDMAB, 0.13% CQ); Group 2: A trial adhesive (base to catalyst on a 1: 2 ratio) was luted as in Group 1; Group 3: One-Step Plus (OSP, Bisco Inc.) following the ethanol bonding technique in combination with the luting agent as in Group 1; Group 4: OSP strictly following the manufacturer's instructions using the luting agent as in Group 1. The groups were challenged with push-out tests. Posted root slices were loaded until post segment extrusion in the apical-coronal direction. Failure modes were analyzed under scanning electron microscopy. Results: Push-out strength was not significantly influenced by the luting agent (p>0.05). This study evaluated the influence of solvent evaporation conditions of acid-etching adhesives. The medium dentin of thirty extracted human third molars was exposed and bonded to different types of etch-and-rinse adhesives: 1) Scotchbond Multi-Purpose (SBMP) ; water-based; 2) Adper Single Bond 2 (SB) ; ethanol/water-based, and 3) Prime & Bond 2.1 (PB) ; acetone-based. Solvents were evaporated at air-drying temperatures of 21ºC or 38ºC. Composite buildups were incrementally constructed. After storage in water for 24 h at 37ºC, the specimens were prepared for bond strength testing. Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (5%). SBMP performed better when the solvents were evaporated at a higher temperature (p < 0.05). Higher temperatures did not affect the performance of SB or PB. Bond strength at room temperature was material-dependent, and air-drying temperatures affected bonding of the water-based, acid-etching adhesive.

One-Year Evaluation of a Simplified Ethanol-Wet Bonding Technique: A Randomized Clinical Trial

The objective of this randomized clinical trial was to evaluate the clinical performance of adhesive restorations using a three-step etch-and-rinse adhesive (TSER), a one-step self-etching adhesive (OSSE), and a simplified ethanol-wet bonding technique (EWBT) prior to the application of a composite resin in non-carious cervical lesions. Ninety-three restorations (31 for each group) were placed in 17 patients by a single operator. No cavity preparation was performed. After 6 and 12 months, the restorations were assessed by two previously trained examiners using modified Ryge criteria for retention (kappa=1.00) and marginal adaptation/staining (kappa=0.81), and the results were analyzed by Fisher's exact and Kruskal-Wallis tests, respectively. No significant differences were observed among groups at the 6- and 12-month time points for any of the assessed criteria (p≥0.05). The intra-group analysis performed by Cochran's test (for retention) and Wilcoxon test (for marginal adaptation/staining) revealed significant differences between the baseline/12-month time intervals in marginal adaptation in OSSE (p=0.0180) and in marginal staining in TSER (p=0.0117). The survival analysis for retention criteria performed using a log-rank test did not show significant differences (p>0.05). The restorations placed using the simplified EWBT performed equally well as the other adhesive strategies employed.

Effect of Replacing a Component of a Self-Etch Adhesive by Chlorhexidine on Bonding to Dentin

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of replacing a component of the self-etch adhesive Adper Scotchbond SE (liquid A + liquid B) by 2% chlorhexidine (CHX) on bond strength to dentin after 1 day, 3 months or 6 months of water storage. Eight human teeth were sectioned to expose a flat dentin surface and were then randomly assigned to 2 groups. In the control group, the dentin surfaces were treated with the adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions. In the experimental group, liquid A was replaced by 2% CHX. Next, a 6-mm-high resin composite block was incrementally built on the bonded surfaces. The restored teeth were then sectioned to produce stick-shaped specimens (cross-sectional area - 0.8 mm2). The microtensile bond strength (µTBS) was recorded, and the failure modes were assessed. Data were analyzed by two-way repeated measures ANOVA (α=0.05). Four additional teeth were processed in order to conduct a micromorphological analysis of the resin-dentin interface. The µTBS values did not significantly decrease after water storage in either the control or the experimental group, whose values did not differ significantly irrespective of storage time. The morphological aspect of the bonding interface appears not to have been affected by CHX. A higher incidence of cohesive failures within the adhesive and mixed failures (cohesive within adhesive and resin composite) was observed for both groups. It may be concluded that dentin pre-treatment with 2% CHX did not influence significantly the bonding performance of the evaluated adhesive.

MATERIAL AND METHODS: One luting agent (70 Wt% BisGMA, 28.5% TEGDMA; 1.5% p-tolyldiethanolamine) to cement fiber posts into root canals was applied with 4 different adhesive combinations: Group 1: The etched roots were rinsed with water for 30 s to remove the phosphoric acid, then rinsed with 99.6% ethanol for 30 s, and blotdried. A trial adhesive (base to catalyst on a 1:1 ratio) was used with an experimental luting agent (35% Bis-GMA, 14.37% TeGDMA, 0.5% eDMAB, 0.13% CQ); Group 2: A trial adhesive (base to catalyst on a 1:2 ratio) was luted as in Group 1; Group 3: One-Step Plus (OSP, Bisco Inc.) following the ethanol bonding technique in combination with the luting agent as in Group 1; Group 4: OSP strictly following the manufacturer's instructions using the luting agent as in Group 1. The groups were challenged with push-out tests. Posted root slices were loaded until post segment extrusion in the apical-coronal direction. Failure modes were analyzed under scanning electron microscopy. RESULTS: Push-out strength was not significantly influenced by the luting agent (p>0.05).
