Project submitted as partial requirement for the conferred of Master of Human Resource Management; This research aims to study the possible relation between presenteeism and other factors which are considered to be connected with presenteeism in former studies in Chinese health and educational institutions. Presenteeism, asa new concept in organizational behavior literature, refers to working performance and productivity loss that occurs when employees come to work but are not well-functional due to physical and psychological causes. Next, we clarify factors connected to presenteeism: work-family conflict, family-work conflict, role ambiguity, performance and supervisor support. The results from a sample of 258 health and educational institutions revealed that work/family conflict and role ambiguity are predictive of presenteeism. We also found that employees in health institutions exhibited higher level of supervisor support and lower level of presenteeism compare to employees in educational institutions. Finally the implications and limitations of these results and directions for further research are discussed.; Este estudo tem como objetivo estudar a possível relação entre o presentismo e outras variáveis consideradas importantes na relação com o presentismo em instituições de saúde e educação Chinesas. Presentismo – aparece como um novo conceito na literatura de comportamento organizacional - refere-se ao desempenho de trabalho e perda de produtividade que ocorre quando os funcionários vão trabalhar...

This research is dedicated to analyze the school culture (institutions and school practices) which was used as elements of social distinction of pelotense elite, to comprove the modernity of the practices and institutions related to that group. For the achievement of this research we used written and iconographic sources, extracted from the city of Pelotas press and official documents. This research is developed about the 1910 to 1930 decades, a period characterized as a transitional context.. We realize that, at that juncture, the Pelotense elite used the educational institutions and their school practices as representations of educational and urban modernity. For realizing this research we found in the New Cultural History, especially Le Goff and Burke, a basis. For working with images we chose an approximation with authors who have worked with photos, such as Kossoy, Freund, Bauret, Fabris and Leite. This study assesses the educational progress of Egypt, especially in basic education and identifies the issues that still need to be addressed. At the level of basic education real progress has been made on narrowing regional and reducing gender disparities, reducing class size, eliminating multiple shifts, increasing class instructional time, and introducing technology in the classroom. While Egypt is to be lauded for its significant achievements, problems persist in the education sector. Of particular concern are the problems of the poor. The poor face numerous disadvantages in educating their children, mostly due to: more children per household, low parental education, very limited access to kindergarten, and a high private cost of public schooling. As a result, of all children age seven to eleven who are not attending school, 50 percent are from the poorest segment of the population. While Egypt has embarked on an ambitious and comprehensive education reform program, it faces numerous challenges to attain its educational goals. Foremost among the challenges are: a) improve the quality of schooling...

This report is about education, skills, and labor market outcomes in the Kyrgyz Republic. The report shows that skills are valued in the Kyrgyz Republic labor market, yet skills gaps persist. Three findings are particularly noteworthy. First, higher skilled youth have better employment outcomes, meaning that youth with more cognitive and non-cognitive skills are more likely to be employed than inactive or discouraged youth. Second, workers with higher cognitive and non-cognitive skills are more likely to use those skills in their daily work. Third, workers with higher skills—cognitive skills especially—tend to have higher quality (formal sector, less repetitive tasks, less physical work) jobs. However, large variations in observed skills among those with the same level of educational attainment indicate that formal education is failing too many people, even though skill development occurs at different stages in the life cycle and a host of actors are involved—families, for example, play a central role. The report argues that the government could shift some of its focus from providing access to educational institutions and instead focus on providing the skills (cognitive, non-cognitive, and technical) students need to succeed as adults. The government can also do more to get children off to the right start by investing in early childhood development programs...

This short country report, a result of larger Information for Development Program (infoDev) - supported survey of the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education in Africa, provides a general overview of current activities and issues related to ICT use in education in the country. Senegal's hand on commitment to incorporating ICT in education is still in the beginning stages of progress and evaluation. Although Senegal's public officials and government bodies recognize ICT as a powerful engine for progress in economic expansion and modernization and have a national ICT policy in place, it has not yet been integrated into the education sector in any kind of formal policy. However, the Ministry of Education and several organizations have taken initiatives to launch and continue activities that will facilitate the modernization of schools and other educational institutions. Initiatives have also been made in the informal sector, such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Community Multimedia Center Scale-Up Project...

Experiencing violence in schools can negatively impact girls' enrollment as well as the quality of the education they receive. Evidence suggests that sexual harassment is widespread in educational settings in many parts of the world. Children who have witnessed violence at home or experienced violence have lower educational attainment. In Zambia, girls who experienced sexual violence were found to have more difficulty concentrating on studies, some students transferred to another school to escape harassment, and others dropped out of school because of pregnancy. Few ministries of education around the world have explicit policies on sexual violence and harassment as unacceptable, and few have developed guidelines on the definition of harassment and how educational institutions should respond.

In the face of modern functionalism, Pierpaolo Donati’s proposal on relational sociology emerges as a new form of social intervention that is crucial to the study of educational institutions. This demands an understanding of the merits and logic behind the relational perspective. The need for the emergence of a “societal” citizenship is proposed, one with room for the social phenomenon Donati calls social private, founded on the principle of solidarity.; Frente al funcionalismo moderno, la propuesta de la sociología relacional de Pierpaolo Donati surge como una nueva forma de intervención social, clave para el estudio de las instituciones educativas. Performance evaluation of various organizations especially educational institutions is a very important area of research and needs to be cultivated more. In this paper, we propose a performance evaluation for educational institutions using rough set on fuzzy approximation spaces with ordering rules and information entropy. In order to measure the performance of educational institutions, we construct an evaluation index system. Rough set on fuzzy approximation spaces with ordering is applied to explore the evaluation index data of each level. Furthermore, the concept of information entropy is used to determine the weighting coefficients of evaluation indexes. Also, we find the most important indexes that influence the weighting coefficients. The proposed approach is validated and shows the practical viability. Moreover, the proposed approach can be applicable to any organizations.; Comment: 18 pages

This study aimed to build-up a set of financial performance indicators that were calculated, analyzed, and then evaluated by managers of educational institutions. That evaluation was performed to verify if the indicators, used as benchmarking, would allow the self-evaluation and would indicate the need of strategic changes. In order to define the indicators, we made a bibliographical review which selected a set of indicators to support the management. The necessary data to calculate those indicators were obtained starting from the accounting analysis, in the period of 2007 and 2008, of 39 schools, being 23 public municipal, 5 public state and 11 private institutions, all belonging to the metropolitan area of Porto Alegre. Once such calculations were made, those indicators were tabulated, then, they were introduced to the managers of the researched institutions. The managers’ evaluation was in the sense to verify which indicators would be relevant when taking a decision in the administration of the schools that they managed. Through this process, it was possible to systematize a set of indicators, considered to be the most appropriate, to the manager of schools and that offers the comparability of a school in relation to the others of the same group (public or private) and of same level and kind of education...

This paper explores the greening of higher educational institutions. It is based on a survey carried out on a sample of higher educational institutions within London, UK. A qualitative research approach, using semi-structured interviews, is applied to assess: how far the relevant institutions have reached with respect to greening within the areas of energy and solid waste management; what the interviewees consider to be the most important barriers to further greening their campuses; and how such barriers can be reduced, or possibly overcome. The study maintains that although the institutions are not at ground zero with respect to greening, their overall environmental quality is relatively poor, particularly concerning recycling. It is argued that the barrier suggested to be of greatest significance by the interviewees, namely budgetary constrains, is at least partly due to a lack of knowledge concerning how greening initiatives can save costs as well as an institutional reluctance to change. It is concluded therefore that one of the most important measures that needs to be undertaken to overcome barriers to greening is to raise the environmental awareness within campus communities.

Sustainability has become the key word of developing world and it’s evident in many issues, the growing economy is facing nowadays. Sustainability is the need of the hour for Indian economy to support our future generation with a cleaner, safer environment. Legal framework implemented by governing bodies such as Pollution control board is also supporting the implementation of sustainable development by new enforcements introduced then and there, but it’s questionable about the effectiveness of this frameworks. Most of the enforcements are focusing to imply the sustainability in industries or equivalent organizations but not putting thrust on all polluting bodies, educational institutions are one among them [1]. Recent growth in educational scenario in India had increased the number of educational institutions to a large extent, also increased the effect on environment by their activities. Growth of educational sector and the number of institutions catering various fields of education is needed for India but the growth should be optimized in a way such that it’s sustainable and eco friendly. Various methods are developed recently to find out the exact problems associated with the environment, Geograpchial Information System (GIS ) is one among them taking a big leap in the recent years in the area of environmental problem identification. This paper provides the details of the environmental impacts of educational institutions with case studies and also suggests a sustainable framework to make them environmental friendly by the use of (GIS ).

INTRODUCTION: The first occupational therapy (OT) undergraduate programme in Brazil opened in 1956 in Rio de Janeiro by the "Associagao Brasileira Beneficente de Reabilitagao", as a technical educational course. It became a university undergraduate programme only in 1969. The aim of this article is to provide a comprehensive overview of the development of OT undergraduate programmes in Brazil. In addition, a mapping of the distribution of existing educational courses in Brazil will be reported through an historical overview. From 1958 until 1986, 15 undergraduate programmes were identified. Between 1987 and 1999, this number increased to 24 and finally between 2000 and 2011 this number was raised to 75 across the whole country. There are some significant differences between the OT courses, depending on the region of the country. The lecturing laboratory spaces that drew the most attention were the Assistive Technology Laboratories, which only began to appear in the middle of the 2000s CONCLUSION: There was a marked increase throughout the last decade in the number and the quality of OT undergraduate programmes in Brazil, which consequently enhanced the number of occupational therapists in the country, improved standards within the profession and brought advances in the field of practice. In order to understand the role of the practitioners in the contemporary world a dialogue between different countries and continents plays an important role when reflecting on the OT undergraduate programmes.
