La renovación de la malla curricular que está viviendo la Universidad de Chile, en particular, el Departamento de Ingeniería Eléctrica, ha motivado la incursión en métodos de enseñanza que incorporen los avances tecnológicos en la materia. Se ha buscado actualizar los métodos pedagógicos recurriendo a modificaciones de las mallas curriculares, actualización de contenidos y cambios en la experiencia de los alumnos sometidos a clases prácticas. La renovación descrita es la motivación del desarrollo de esta memoria, la cual consiste en el desarrollo de un dispositivo móvil de adquisición de datos (DIMAD), que tenga por finalidad convertirse en una herramienta de análisis de fenómenos eléctricos, puntualmente, los fenómenos asociados a las máquinas que componen el conjunto de experiencias obligatorias del Laboratorio docente de Conversión Electromecánica de la Energía (LCEE). Este dispositivo deberá sustituir o complementar los instrumentos que originalmente se utilizan en este laboratorio y deberá tener la capacidad de funcionar con todos los distintos tipos de máquinas que posee este laboratorio. En cuanto a su característica de dispositivo de uso académico, significará una mejora en la experiencia de los alumnos respecto a la forma de trabajo tradicional. Particle tracking in the ILC extraction lines with DIMAD and BDSIM

The study of beam transport is of central importance to the design and performance assessment of modern particle accelerators. In this paper, we benchmark two contemporary codes, DIMAD and BDSIM, the latter being a relatively new tracking code built within the framework of GEANT4. We consider both the 20 mrad and 2 mrad extraction lines of the 500 GeV International Linear Collider (ILC) and we perform particle tracking studies of heavily disrupted post-collision electron beams. We find that the two codes give an almost equivalent description of the beam transport.

Realistic calculation of NLC luminosity has been performed using particle tracking in DIMAD and beam-beam simulations in GUINEA-PIG code for various values of beam emittance, energy and beta functions at the Interaction Point (IP). Results of the simulations are compared with analytic luminosity calculations. The optimum range of IP beta functions for high luminosity was identified.; Comment: 4 pages, 7 figures

The goal of this study is to evaluate the impact of the latest ILC beam parameters at the Interaction Point (IP), as specified in the 2013 ILC Technical Design Report (TDR), on beam losses in the extraction line. The previous beam loss evaluation was based on the parameters specified in the 2007 ILC Reference Design Report (RDR). The results of this study are compared to the results obtained in the past for the ``nominal'' and the ``low power'' (low-P) parameter options of the RDR. The initial disrupted beam distribution at IP was generated using Guinea-Pig code, and the beam losses were obtained in tracking simulations using DIMAD. The study is performed for 500 GeV center-of-mass beam energy and the extraction line optics corresponding to the latest final focus optics with L* = 4.5 m, with and without detector solenoid.; Comment: Talk presented at the International Workshop on Future Linear Colliders (LCWS13) Tokyo, Japan, 11-15 November 2013
