Pós-graduação em Comunicação - FAAC; Com as novas tecnologias, surgem campos inéditos de consagração artística. Na Internet, o site MySpace é utilizado como uma rede social cujo diferencial está na interatividade proporcionada entre artistas (consagrados e independentes) e usuários não artistas. O site, que é objeto de estudo desta pesquisa, tem revelado novos talentos a partir da popularidade obtida por eles junto aos internautas. Utilizando como base metodológica os estudos de Featherstone (1995), Jenkins (2008) e Hardt e Negri (2010) em torno de conceitos como novo papel dos intermediários culturais, cultura de convergência, trabalho imaterial e afetivo, e complementando-os com estudos situados no âmbito da etnografia virtual, são apresentados dados que identificam como os usuários do MySpace se utilizam de ferramentas disponíveis para se transformarem em verdadeiros agentes culturais. Análise das relações entre televisão, biografia, memória e vida privada que toma como referência a produção dos programas de entrevista, um gênero de longa existência nos canais abertos da televisão brasileira, e que busca compreender aspectos da vida social e cultural contemporânea e suas relações com os processos de comunicação midiáticos. Este trabalho indagou a respeito da relação entre gostos, práticas e padrões de consumo cultural e as modalidades de estratificação social — em particular, as classes — na Montevidéu dos anos 2000. A hipótese guia do trabalho sustentava que o consumo cultural -os gostos, práticas e opções culturais- nestas coordenadas geográficas e temporais expressou não somente modalidades de integração social, como se acredita comumente no Uruguai, como também de legitimação/reprodução da desigualdade social. Em outras palavras, o consumo cultural no período em questão tem sido um fator fundamental de identificação social de classes e, portanto, mais uma ferramenta de distinção que um fator de coesão social. This article focuses on the analysis and understanding of the ambiences and sociabilities present in the independent record stores of Lisbon and Porto in the last decade (1998-2010). We’ve started our work based on the assumption that these places both locate and congregate a lot of the musical offer of alternative rock, since, on a reminiscent level, there is no rock without a nearby record store... This focus finds its pertinency not only as a contextualization basis on the scope of musical offer and reception of the alternative rock in Portugal, but also because today we can witness true ‘revolutions’ regarding the way music gets to people. To the ‘classic’ formats others were added, the media of access also changed and, in the words of many, were democratized, leaving a greater space for legal and illegal downloads (the dematerialization of music). Mercado de arte, intervenientes, mudança de atitudes, experiências, desafios e novas tendências de criação artística configuram uma recente perspetiva do marketing cultural com repercussões no comportamento do consumidor de arte, no público-alvo, na economia da arte e, neste contexto, na especulação artística e nos meios por ela veiculados. Esta questão leva à necessidade de uma reflexão sobre a utilidade estratégica da comunicação na perspetiva do marketing obrigando a reconsiderar a sua função intermediária ao serviço da inovação e comercialização da arte. Sustaining Urban Growth through Innovative Capacity : Beijing and Shanghai in Comparison

The authors examine the diverse prospects of innovative sectors in Beijing and Shanghai using available indicators and data collected for this study through surveys. Beijing is the first choice for companies locating in China, but foreign employees prefer Shanghai for living convenience and cultural amenities. While Shanghai lags behind Beijing in knowledge creation and the generation of startup companies in the innovative sectors, it takes the lead in the commercialization of technological innovations and the development of creative cultural industries. The municipal authorities of Beijing and Shanghai have improved the innovation environment of the cities, but certain elements still stunt the growth of innovative industries, which cannot be removed easily. Three kinds of knowledge-intensive enterprises included in innovative sectors in the survey are high-tech manufacturers, knowledge-intensive business services, and creative content providers. The survey found that the clustering of the firms arose from the attraction of preferential policies and the purchase by governments or state-owned enterprises of information technology products. The municipal development program was an innovative project whose aim, at first, was strengthening the leadership capacity of afro-descendants and later grew to include several community organizations. A small workshop on "Development with Identity" was the first facet of the project. As a result of this workshop, the community of San Luis de Canete and the municipality developed and implemented a number of actions. These included: building a cultural center with a photo exhibit of the community and its most prominent local leaders (cooks, singers, musicians, etc); developing campaigns to beautify the city; and, organizing fairs where all projects, initiatives and peoples could show the community what they did and what they could offer. Financial inclusion -- defined here as the use of formal accounts -- can bring many welfare benefits to individuals. Yet we know very little about the factors underpinning financial inclusion across individuals and countries. Using data for 123 countries and over 124,000 individuals, this paper tries to understand the individual and country characteristics associated with the use of formal accounts and what policies are effective among those most likely to be excluded: the poor and rural residents. The authors find that greater ownership and use of accounts is associated with a better enabling environment for accessing financial services, such as lower account costs and greater proximity to financial intermediaries. Policies targeted to promote inclusion -- such as requiring banks to offer basic or low-fee accounts, exempting some depositors from onerous documentation requirements, allowing correspondent banking, and using bank accounts to make government payments -- are especially effective among those most likely to be excluded. This paper examines the relationship between an exporter and an import agent in an international marketing channel using agency theory and cultural dimension frameworks, and proposes a research agenda with five testable propositions from this literature. Agency theory provides a way of forming an efficient exporter-agent contract and suggests that efficient contractual conditions are likely to provide the basis of a successful negotiated outcome. Cultural dimensions are elements that are likely to create obstacles to an efficient contractual outcome. This paper presents the concept of the dimensional gap that exporters may need to bridge in order to form an efficient contractual relationship. We suggest that in a cross cultural encounter, a divergence of cultural dimensions between the parties to the contract will impact adversely on agency costs and lead to contractual inefficiencies. By identifying gaps in the cultural dimensions between contractual parties, and taking steps towards reducing these gaps, the potential for such inefficiencies can be reduced, improving the chances of successful contractual outcomes. It articulates current conceptualisations while also questioning the mystified nature with which cultural intermediaries are dealt in Consumer Culture Theory (CCT). Adopting a non-representational approach, this research augments current representational descriptions by analysing what cultural intermediaries of high fashion do when they frame aesthetic consumption experiences as legitimate and desirable. Despite their significant influence on consumption, current theorisations in CCT have been limited to describing cultural intermediaries as ‘sorcerers’, who possess a magical capacity to bewitch consumers and leave them spellbound. A non-representational mode of theorising does not explicitly focus on the meaning embodied by these agents, but rather deconstructs this ‘magical’ veil by following the embodied processes that mobilise affect. The paper opens up with a theoretical interpretation of the process of construction of the identity of cities. It is asserted that globalization entails a growing inter-city competition which, in turn, puts the cities' modernization strategies under pressure. The re-invention of local history and tradition is one of the most valuable competitive resources for city planners, developers and cultural intermediaries to launch modernization. Inter alia, tourist resources (primary and secondary) and tourist attraction help cities relocate themselves amongst competitors. O objetivo principal do presente trabalho é analisar as emoções de atletas adultos de basquetebol da divisão especial série A-1 do campeonato paulista temporada 2009/2010, para, assim, responder os seguintes questionamentos: quais os artefatos e instrumentos culturais que estão presentes no basquetebol e, que, portanto, são mediadores simbólicos e resultam em apropriação pelos jogadores? Els intercanvis culturals entre Croàcia i els Països Catalans es limiten a visites d’escriptors, fins gairebé als anys setanta del segle passat. A partir d’aquell moment, la tasca individual d’alguns traductors, primer, i la implicació de les institucions després, han fet que aquest diàleg siga una mica més fluid. Durant la primera dècada d’aquest nou segle les traduccions de literatura catalana al croat han augmentat significativament i s’ha començat a traduir més literatura croata al català, i sense llengües intermediàries. No obstant això, només s’han posat les bases d’un diàleg que pot ser molt més fluid.; The cultural exchanges between Croatia and the Catalan Countries are limited, almost up to the decade of the nineteen seventies, to visits by some authors. From then on the individual task of some translators and, later, the taking part of the institutions have turned it into a more fluent dialogue. During the first decade of our present century, the translations of Catalan Literature into Croatian have increased substantially, and it has begun to increase the translation of Croatian Literature into Catalan, straight from one into the other, without going through a third language. Nevertheless, the foundations have been only laid for a dialogue that can be much more fluent.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine recent developments in European policy debates concerned with whether governments should intervene in the digital intermediary marketplace to protect the public’s interest. Design/methodology/approach – The paper discusses the public’s interest in the evolution of the digital intermediary marketplace, considers the economics and policy literature on the case for policy intervention in the market dynamics of digital platforms and examines the extent to which policy makers in Europe are catching up with changes in the market for digital platform services. Findings – It is argued that policy-makers need to broaden the evidence base upon which they consider whether policy intervention is needed beyond economic analysis. This is essential to ensure that the European digital intermediary marketplace develops in line with economic, social and cultural goals. Research limitations/implications – The case is made for measures to ensure continuous and integrated monitoring of developments in the digital marketplace based on economic indicators and evidence on the diversity of media content.
