No segundo experimento...

In adults with non-promyelocytic acute myeloid leukemia (AML), high-dose cytarabine consolidation therapy has been shown to influence survival in selected patients, although the appropriate doses and schemes have not been defined. We evaluated survival after calculating the actual dose of cytarabine that patients received for consolidation therapy and divided them into 3 groups according to dose. We conducted a single-center, retrospective study involving 311 non-promyelocytic AML patients with a median age of 36 years (16-79 years) who received curative treatment between 1978 and 2007. The 131 patients who received cytarabine consolidation were assigned to study groups by their cytarabine dose protocol. Group 1 (n=69) received <1.5 g/m2 every 12 h on 3 alternate days for up to 4 cycles. The remaining patients received high-dose cytarabine (≥1.5 g/m2 every 12 h on 3 alternate days for up to 4 cycles). The actual dose received during the entire consolidation period in these patients was calculated...

In this workmatrix consolidation mechanism has been investigated in 1D-Ti/SiC/C composites produced by Continuous Binder-Powder Coating - CBPC. Titanium metal matrix composites reinforced with continuous SiC/C filaments were analysed in different densification conditions. The results show that during processing, densification occurs by several mechanisms including a complex elasto-viscoplastic flow and diffusion bonding. The matrix consolidation depends on many processing conditions such as pressure and temperature, mainly. Using correct conditions of pressure and temperature, the titanium matrix composites produced by this process present a good matrix consolidation without porosity and a weak interaction between matrix and fiber. These good agreements between matrix consolidation and weak chemical interaction between matrix and fibre are obtained when pressures up to 150 MPa and temperatures below β-transus are applied. In these conditions, supplementary heat treatments can be performed either in alpha or beta domains.

Both emotion and sleep are independently known to modulate declarative memory. Memory can be facilitated by emotion, leading to enhanced consolidation across increasing time delays. Sleep also facilitates offline memory processing, resulting in superior recall the next day. Here we explore whether rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, and aspects of its unique neurophysiology, underlie these convergent influences on memory. Using a nap paradigm, we measured the consolidation of neutral and negative emotional memories, and the association with REM-sleep electrophysiology. Subjects that napped showed a consolidation benefit for emotional but not neutral memories. The No-Nap control group showed no evidence of a consolidation benefit for either memory type. Within the Nap group, the extent of emotional memory facilitation was significantly correlated with the amount of REM sleep and also with right-dominant prefrontal theta power during REM. Together, these data support the role of REM-sleep neurobiology in the consolidation of emotional human memories, findings that have direct translational implications for affective psychiatric and mood disorders.; Psychology

The study explored when, under what conditions, and to what extent did European integration, particularly the European Union’s requirement for democratic conditionality, contribute to democratic consolidation in Spain, Poland, and Turkey? On the basis of a four-part definition, the dissertation examined the democratizing impact of European integration process on each of the following four components of consolidation: (i) holding of fair, free and competitive elections, (ii) protection of fundamental rights, including human and minority rights, (iii) high prospects of regime survival and civilian control of the military, and (iv) legitimacy, elite consensus, and stateness. To assess the relative significance of EU’s democratizing leverage, the thesis also examined domestic and non-EU international dynamics of democratic consolidation in the three countries. By employing two qualitative methods (case study and process-tracing), the study focused on three specific time frames: 1977-1986 for Spain, 1994-2004 for Poland, and 1999-present for Turkey. In addition to official documents, newspapers, and secondary sources, face-to-face interviews made with politicians, academics, experts, bureaucrats, and journalists in the three countries were utilized. The thesis generated several conclusions. First of all...

A numerical model for consolidation of soils treated by electro-osmosis-surcharge preloading coupled process is proposed. The model employs piecewise linear finite difference method to account for the nonlinear variation of physical and electro-chemical properties of soils during consolidation with large deformation. The physical and electro-chemical properties of soils include void ratio, coefficients of compressibility and permeability, electrical potential and resistance. FORTRAN programming package is used to implement the computation of the model and verify the model against analytical exact solutions. It is found that numerical results derived from the model are in good agreement with the analytical solutions in relation to an identical scenario of small-deformation consolidation. A laboratory model test is conducted to further verify the validity of the proposed model in simulating the consolidation process of soils. The results show that the approximations of consolidation settlement obtained by using EC2 are in good agreement with the measurements of the model tests.; Zhou, Ya-dong, Wang, Bao-tian, Deng, An

A consolidation model was established for vacuum preloading-electroosmosis combined single prefabricated vertical drain (PVD), which is used to consolidate low-permeable soil mass. The model was derived in terms of "equal strain hypothesis" and one-dimensional electroosmosis consolidation theory. The analytical solutions to the model are able to predict the primary consolidation of soil, including pore pressure, consolidation degree as well as water discharge volume. A laboratory apparatus was set up to examine the consolidation of kaolin which was subjected to the combined consolidation process. The test results were compared against analytical results to verify the predictability of the consolidation model. It is indicated that vacuum preloading-electroosmosis combined process is able to facilitate the consolidation of the kaolin and the analytical results are in good agreement with test results.; A. The classic consolidation theory suggests that the physical, mechanical and electrical properties of soil are constant and uniform in the course of electroosmosis consolidation. The solutions given in this presumption neglect or at least underestimate the effect of the properties variation along with the progress of soil consolidation. This paper presents a piecewise-linear finite-difference model for one-dimensional large strain electroosmosis consolidation called ECS1, which was developed based on a fixed Eulerian co-ordinate system. The model is able to account for the nonlinear variation of soil properties and estimate the trends of excess pore water pressure, settlement, electrical potential& resistance. ECS1 is verified against Esrig’s exact solution and used to illustrate numerical solutions to a largestrain electroosmosis consolidation problem. The variables addressed in the solutions include seepage volume, settlement and consolidation degree, distribution of pore pressure and electrical gradient, and the effect of varied electrical gradient on consolidation.

Using a wide range of countries, this study identifies neopatrimonialism, presidentialism and lack of development as the main problems for democratic consolidation. Consolidating democracy in Africa requires leaders to change their attitudes and adopt the rule of law rather than the rule of money...

Data were obtained from a survey of researchers ascribed to the ‘Biology and Biomedicine’ area of the Spanish Council for Scientific Research, as well as from their curricula vitae. One quarter of the scientists work as members of teams in the process of consolidation. Our findings illustrate the importance, for the development and consolidation of research teams, of the availability of a minimum number of researchers with a permanent position and of a minimum number of support staff and non-staff personnel (mainly post-doctoral fellows). Consolidation of research teams has a clear influence on the more academic-oriented quantitative indicators of the scientific activity of individuals. Researchers belonging to consolidated teams perform quantitatively better than their colleagues in terms of the number of articles published in journals covered in the Journal Citation Reports...

This is the accepted manuscript. The final version is available at http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0197397515000405.; China is in the midst of an unprecedented and critical period of strategic opportunities for land consolidation. In this process, the country has been confronted with new situations, opportunities, and serious challenges, all of which urgently require top-level design of strategic planning framework for land consolidation. Based on a SWOT analysis, we propose a strategic planning framework for land consolidation at the national level, with a focus on clarification of internal Strength-Weakness strategies and external Opportunity-Threat strategies involved in the land consolidation process. Whereas it can be concluded that land consolidation in China has not yet entered the stage of landscape-ecological pattern, it is on the brink of that stage. Thus, the proposed strategic plan should provide strong protection for continuous promotion of land consolidation through the application of a top-down and comprehensive design considering agriculture production, livelihood and ecology as comprehensive targets. Meanwhile, it should also unswervingly adhere to the "red line," optimize the layout of urban and rural land use and propel a new landscape-ecological pattern of land consolidation. In this way...
