ABSTRACT Brazil is a country with significant biodiversity and is one of its Cerrado biomes that presents great diversity of native plant species, many used in folk medicine and with little or no scientific study. Among these species, there is the Jacaranda carob (Vell.) A. DC. (Bignoniaceae), popularly known as "carob", "carobinha" and "carob field." In folk medicine against impigens is used as astringents and wound healing, as a diuretic for the treatment of infections, syphilis and ulcers. Some phytochemical studies revealed the presence of phenolic compounds and terpenoids in kind and not biological studies have been published about the same so far. Thus, this study had as objective to evaluate the chemical composition of plant extracts and antioxidant potential survey and allelopathic species. The samples of plant material were carried out in natural habitat, in the Campus JK UFVJM in Diamantina-MG. In phytochemical studies, samples were evaluated and nonpolar components analysis proposed by GC / MS, IR and NMR, indicating the likely presence of aliphatic and unsaturated, straight chain and branched ketones, organic acids, esterified or not (such as decanoic acid) and phenolic compounds (such as hydroquinone). Through studies of antioxidant activity was observed that the polar extracts of leaves and flowers of J. caroba present phenolic compounds with antioxidant potential. ABSTRACT Coffee is among the most important agricultural products in international trade and its quality as a product is an important factor in price formation, besides being one of the most widely consumed beverages worldwide and therefore arouses interest for studies of the physiological effects of its constituents. Thus, the present study was to evaluate the constituent sugars, soluble solids, phenolics, flavonoids, caffeine and determine the total acidity, pH and activity antioxidantepor different methods (DPPH, FRAP and ABTS ? +) in raw coffee beans . ABSTRACT Myrciaria cauliflora (jabuticabeira) is a fruit specie, native in Brazil and created mainly in domestic gardens in Minas Gerais. However, little is known about its chemical composition and biological effects in the fruit residue. In front of this, the present work had as a goal to evaluate the chemical composition, antioxidant potential (in vitro) and hypolipidemic (in vivo) of Myrciaria cauliflora fruit peel flour (FCJ). For that, mature fruits (jabuticaba) were pulped manually and its peel was dried and crushed to obtain a homogeneous flour (FCJ). There had been evaluated the proximate composition, mineral content as well as total phenolic, flavonoids and anthocyanins as their antioxidant activity in vitro through different methods (DPPH, ABTS?+, FRAP and ?-caroten/acid linoleic). The FCJ was also subjected to extraction with water-alcohol extracts fractionated in column chromatography (CC). The phytochemicals isolated were characterized IR and NMR. ABSTRACT The Cerrado comprise great diversity of native vegetal species, widely used in folk medicine although with little or no scientific study. Among these species, stands out Blepharocalyx salicifolius (Kunth) O. Berg (Myrtaceae), known as ?Maria-preta?, ?Guamirim? or ?Murta?. Traditional medicine recommends the use of fresh leaves infusions as antidiarreic, against urinary and respiratory tracts infections. Some studies showed antibiotic activity of essential oil and leishmanicidal activity of ethanolic extract from leaves. Phytochemical studies revealed the presence of phenolic compounds in the extract and terpenes in the essential oil. Generally, the chemical composition of essential oils from the same vegetal specimen and the same species presents quantitative and qualitative variations, due to genetic, environmental and ontogenetic reasons. It is important to study these chemical changes, because this may have implications in the biological activities of plant products. Neste estudo investigaram-se os efeitos do ?leo essencial de P.serpens (OEPs) em roedores atrav?s de testes para dor e inflama??o. Nesse trabalho, foram caracterizadas algumas argilas coletadas nos munic?pios de S?o Lu?s, Ros?rio, Pinheiro e Mirinzal. A caracteriza??o foi realizada atrav?s dos ensaios de difra??o de raios X, massa espec?fica real, capacidade de troca de c?tions (CTC), ?rea superficial, distribui??o granulom?trica, an?lise qu?mica, an?lise t?rmica (TG-DTA) e limites de Atterberg. Ensaios tecnol?gicos de retra??o linear, antes e ap?s a queima, absor??o de ?gua e tens?o de ruptura a flex?o, em tr?s pontos, foram realizados em corpos de prova prensados uniaxialmente a 20 MPa e tratados termicamente em 850, 950, 1050, 1150 e 1250?C. Os resultados obtidos permitiram identificar duas argilas de queima branca, constitu?das de quartzo, caolim, feldspato e anat?sio, com excelentes propriedades para uso em cer?mica branca. Pottery is the largest artifact related to the aesthetic development, and also what else is resisting revolutions promoted by humanity. Many of these artistic pieces are in a historical legacy of ceramic production, such as the Portuguese tiles that its quality is matched by the other arts in vogue in Europe, such as tapestry, jewelery and furniture. In Brazil, during the colonial period, the pottery was instrumental composition of architectural and artistic styles such as baroque, neoclassical and eclectic. With a good chemical composition of grains, oats are appropriate for human and animal consumption, as an alternative to supplie the demand for functional foods. In this context breeding programs of oats need to understand the dynamics of the characters related to chemical quality of the grain in order to provide the consumers, cultivars with high nutritional quality, adequate for the purpose intended. This study aimed to increase knowledge about the chemical components of oat grains, seeking to evaluate the correlation between these characters and to characterize the cultivars. Experiments were conducted with two segregating populations at the in the experimental field of the Plant Genomics and Breeding Center (FAEM / UFPel) located in the municipality of Cap??o do Le??o/RS and cultivars grown in Cap??o do Le??o and Passo Fundo/RS. One of the populations was generated from crosses between the IAC 7 x UFRGS 19 and the other population was generated from crosses between UPF 15 and ALBASUL. The jambolanum is a tree originating from India and Indonesia, belonging to the family of Mirtaceas. The tree bears fruit during January to May in several Brazilian states. The fruit are small, purpleand involves a single core. The taste of jambolanum not stand out so much because the astringency of the fruit. The consumption of tropical fruit is growing in the last years due to the appeal of nutritional and therapeutic effects. These fruits contain different phytochemicals, many of these exhibit antioxidant properties, especially the tocopherols, carotenoids and phenolic compounds, because its property of reacting with free radicals. Among the phenolic compounds there are the flavonoids that chemically, include anthocyanins and flavonols. This work aimed to establish the relationship between the variability of chemical composition and physiological quality of soybean seeds. Three lots were used for the cultivars Tabarana, Tucunar?? and Monsoy 8866. The analyzes were germination, seedling emergence, tetrazolium test, oil content, protein and free fatty acids. The lot 3 of Tabarana cultivar presented higher germination compared to the others. By the tetrazolium test, the seed viability was similar between lots and cultivars. The seedling emergence was higher in Tabarana cultivar and also from seeds of lot 3. The contents of protein, oil free fatty acids in soybean seeds were variable between lots and reflected in the average difference between cultivars. The protein content was higher in Tabarana cultivar and oil content showed higher value in cultivar Monsoy 8866. The free fatty acids was lower in seeds of Tucunar?? cultivar. Soybean seed coats perform as a modulator of the interactions between internal structures of seeds and the external environment, which are vital for its quality. In order to perform a deeper study, four tests were performed. In Test 1, the expression of eight genes was evaluated, possibly related to the quality of the seeds, and express on the seed coats; on Test 2, the seed coats chemical composition was determined; on Test 3, the internal structure of seed coats was analyzed and on Test 4, physical and physiological traits of seeds were evaluated. Four contrasting soybean genotypes were used for the seed coat traits, two yellow seed coats, BMX Pot??ncia RR and CD 202, and two black seed coats, TP and IAC. The relative expression of the genes VINV1, SCB1, SCS1, SBP, LEGINSULIN, CHIA1, SGF14c e CHS8* was evaluated through the qPCR technique in seven phases of seed coat development, on the 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50 and 55 days after anthesis. Genetic resources are essential for sustainable development of agriculture and agribusiness. Landraces, improved varieties, advanced lines and native and wild species are comprised in the concept of genetic resources. The diversity found in Capsicum is wide, with a variety of fruit shapes, sizes, colors and flavors, and also with different levels of pungency and nutritional composition. In this context, this study aims to contribute to the genetic resources knowledge of C. baccatum landraces from collection of Active Germplasm Bank of Embrapa Temperate Agriculture. Two papers will be presented with the objectives of characterize and agronomical evaluate C. baccatum landraces, and characterize the genetic variability to produce bioactive compounds in the fruits. 18 accessions of landraces were evaluated using 27 descriptors (14 quantitative and 13 qualitative multicategoric). The statistical analyzes included comparison of means, using clustering by Tocher method for quantitative data, and clustering by Tocher method and UPGMA for qualitative data. Accessions P27 and P179 are recommended for fresh consumption. The access P92 has the highest productivity and pungent fruits that can be used for canning. The viola is attracting great interest for fish farming, being one of themost numerous species of pond hose and the great potential for aquaculture. The Pond Hose, part of the Mirim Lagoon Basin,located in the eastern portion of southern Brazil and across the region the fishery is developed by hand, depending on hernumerous families of fishermen residents to its shores. Fishing isregulated since 1994 by Ordinance No. 119-N/93 IBAMA, whichdetermines the minimum size of 40 mm internodes for gill netting.With the justification of the reduction of fish production in the region,local fishermen have been using smaller nets for fishing in LakeViola hose, resulting in a systematic reduction in the average size of catches, leading to a greater effort to obtain a yield increasinglysmaller. Our objectives were to evaluate the performance and bodycomposition of the meat viola in two weight ranges, in order to knowwhich one you get a better yield. The animals used were provided by fishermen Pond Hose and collection occurred in August 2011.We used 20 animals of each track, totaling 40 animals. In the Laboratory of Ichthyology at the Federal University of Pelotas werechosen at random the same number of males and females, divided into two weight ranges and analyzed using biometrics. The chemical composition was made in the laboratories of Animal Nutrition and chromatography in the same institution. Animals thatwere in the range of weight 2 showed better carcass yield. We tested the effect of two levels of ether extract based on rice oil concentrate, 30 Saanen goats during early lactation. The feeding was based on the ratio of 60% forage (alfalfa hay), and 40% commercial concentrate with two levels of lipids (3% and 5%). The variables were: average milk production, behavior of the lactation curve, milk chemical composition and total time of lactation against the profile of saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. The increase in the percentage of ether extract oil-based rice did not affect milk production, which presented as mean ?? 2658 379 mL milk / goat / day, between 11 weeks and the chemical composition of milk, which characterized by having 3.78 ?? 0.59% fat, 3.10 ?? 0.18% crude protein, 4.46 ?? 0.20% lactose and 12.19 ?? 0.72% of total solids. However significant (P <0.05) fatty acid profile of milk, reducing the concentrations of saturated fatty acids, palmitic acid C16: 0, myristic C14: 0, capric C10: 0 and lauric C12: 0, which were higher in 3% treatment (26.87, 8.60, 5.90 and 3.06% respectively) and increasing concentrations of unsaturated C16: 1, C17: 1 and C20: 1 (0.43, 0.12 and 0.10%, respectively). The inclusion of rice bran oil at levels of 3% and 5% of dry matter in the diet of goats does not affect milk production and the chemical composition until the 11th week of lactation...

Neste trabalho realizou-se a caracteriza??o qu?mica de fragmentos de artefatos cer?micos encontrados em s?tios arqueol?gicos com terra preta no Baixo Amazonas (Cachoeira-Porteira, Par?, Brasil), representativos da cultura Konduri (de 900 a 400 anos AP). Esses fragmentos s?o constitu?dos de SiO2, Al2O3, Fe2O3, Na2O e P2O5, sendo que SiO2 e Al2O3, juntos, perfazem mais de 80 % em peso. Os teores de P2O,5 s?o relativamente elevados (2,37 % em m?dia) sob a forma de (Al,Fe)-fosfatos, incomuns em cer?micas vermelhas primitivas, mas encontrados em algumas cer?micas arqueol?gicas eg?pcias e romanas. As concentra??es dos elementos tra?os s?o compar?veis ou mesmo inferiores ao n?vel crustal, embora a composi??o total seja pr?xima a mesma. A composi??o qu?mica (exceto P2O5) em conjunto com os dados mineral?gicos e texturais indicam material saprol?tico derivado de rochas ?gneas f?lsicas ou rochas sedimentares como mat?ria-prima das cer?micas. Montrichardia linifera (Araceae), conhecida popularmente como 'aninga', faz parte dos ecossistemas de v?rzea da Amaz?nia e da dieta natural de animais como peixe-boi, tartarugas, peixes, b?falo e gado. Com o objetivo de contribuir para o conhecimento qu?mico e valor nutricional da mesma, folhas e frutos de M. linifera foram coletados ?s margens dos rios Guam? e Maratau?ra, no Estado do Par?, Brasil. Em folhas e frutos foram realizadas an?lises de umidade, res?duo mineral fixo (cinzas), lip?dios, prote?nas, fibra bruta, concentra??o de carboidratos e valor cal?rico. A composi??o mineral (Ca, Mg, Cu, Fe, Zn e Mn) foi obtida por espectrometria de absor??o at?mica de chama. Observou-se que tanto as folhas quanto os frutos da aninga, apesar de cal?ricos (289,75 kcal e 355,12 kcal, respectivamente), possuem baixo valor prot?ico (0,44% e 0,24 %, respectivamente). As concentra??es de mangan?s obtidas (folha = 3279,46 mg kg-1e fruto = 18151,53 mg kg-1) foram consideradas t?xicas, extrapolando o limite m?ximo toler?vel para ruminantes (1000 mg kg-1). A M. linifera, tem capacidade de absorver e bioacumular grandes quantidades de Ca, Mg e Mn presentes no solo, o que torna inadequada a sua utiliza??o exclusiva na alimenta??o de quel?nios...

O g?nero Mansoa pertence ? fam?lia Bignoniaceae e inclui onze esp?cies que ocorrem principalmente nas florestas secas e ?midas do Brasil e da Argentina at? o Sudeste do M?xico. Essas esp?cies na Amaz?nia brasileira s?o conhecidas como "cip?-de-alho", em refer?ncia ao forte cheiro de alho das folhas quando esmagadas. O "cip?-de-alho" tem v?rios usos na medicina tradicional e entre eles, os mais citados s?o para tratamento de gripe, febre, dor e inflama??o de artrite e reumatismo. Apesar de todos os usos, ainda tem pequena aplica??o como fitoter?pico quando comparado ao alho (Allium sativum). Os ?leos essenciais de Mansoa spp. cont?m polissulfetos de alila que contribuem para o aroma e sabor caracter?sticos. O conhecimento do valor nutritivo de plantas forrageiras ? de grande relev?ncia quando se pretende elevar a produtividade dos sistemas pecu?rios na Amaz?nia Oriental, principalmente em ?reas onde ocorre defici?ncia de forragem de boa qualidade, em per?odos de d?ficit h?drico. Assim, caracterizar a potencialidade da leguminosa Flemingia macrophylla (Willd.) Merrill, como alternativa para alimenta??o animal, assume relevante import?ncia, pois pode influenciar no desempenho produtivo de bov?deos para carne e leite. Dessa forma, esta pesquisa visou avaliar a composi??o qu?mica, digestibilidade aparente e consumo volunt?rio dessa leguminosa na alimenta??o suplementar de ruminantes, em per?odos de reduzida disponibilidade de forragem, de baixo valor nutritivo.
