This study aimed to evaluate the effect of substrate on growth, emergence, nutrition, and quality of Anacardium othonianum Rizz. (cerrado cashew tree) seedlings. The experiment was conducted in a greenhouse at the Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory on the Rio Verde campus. The following substrates were used: 1) Bioplant®, 2) Mecplant® (MP) + carbonized rice husk (CRH) (7:3), 3) fine-grained vermiculite (FGV), 4) FGV+CRH (3:1), 5) FGV+CRH (1:1), 6) FGV+CRH (1:3), and 7) sugarcane bagasse (SB) + sugarcane mill filter cake (FC) (3:2). Emerged seedlings were counted at 2-day intervals for 38 days following emergence of the first seedling. At 39, 64, and 89 days after seeding (DAS), the following variables were measured: stem length (SL), stem diameter (SD), and number of leaves (NL). Accumulated dry weight, quality indices, and leaf macro- and micronutrient levels were determined at 89 DAS. Plants grown in the FGV and FGV+CFH (1:3) substrates had shorter stem lengths than the plants grown in other substrates. Increases in seedling growth were smaller between 64 and 89 DAS compared to the initial period of the experiment. The highest leaf N concentrations were found in the SB+FC substrate treatment group; P and K concentrations were higher for the MP+CRH (7:3)...

Anacardium othonianum Rizz. is a medicinal plant species that is native to the Brazilian savannah. Adult plants are different from other genus members in this ecosystem due to their size, and efforts to locate the plants may lead to their extraction from the savannah and, frequently, plant death. Micropropagation has played a significant role in the propagation and preservation of specimens of several plant species; therefore, this study evaluated the effect of various salt concentrations and culture medium volumes on the in vitro cultivation of A. othonianum Rizz. Trial (I) evaluated two culture media (MS and WPM) and three salt concentrations (100, 50 and 25%) in a completely randomized design. Trial (II) evaluated two culture media and salt concentrations, MS (50%) and WPM (100%), and five medium volumes (10, 15, 20, 25 and 30 mL per test tube) as a 2 x 5 factorial in a completely randomized design. After 30 and 60 days of growth, the percentage of plantlet survival, average plantlet and leaf lengths and the average number of leaves and buds per explant were evaluated. The MS (50 and 25%) media and WPM (100 and 50%) media were the most effective for plantlet regeneration. The best responses were observed in 15- and 25-mL volumes of the MS (50%) medium. Therefore...

Anacardium othonianum Rizz., known as caju de árvore do cerrado, is a fruiting and medicinal species native of the savannah ecosystem, with great economic potential. Since agricultural expansion in the savannah was followed by the reduction of native vegetation, micro propagation has significantly contributed for the propagation of several species, resulting in uniform healthy seedlings for commercial plantings and the revegetation of degraded areas. This study used techniques to determine some factors affecting micro propagation of A. othonianum Rizz, since there are no reports for this species in the literature. The results indicate that storage conditions for the seeds were good to supply explants for use in the micro propagation trials for up to 275 days. The media MS (50 and 25%) and WPM (100 and 50%) were more effective for the regeneration of seedlings from nodal segments, and the best medium volume were 15 and 25 mL in test tubes containing the medium MS (50%). The culture media amended with up to 8.88 mM BAP and 4.44 mM ANA had no effect on the multiplication of nodal segments. Also, the best morpho-physiological response was obtained by inoculating the nodal segments horizontally, in the presence of light, and sucrose and the cotton plug affected the adaptation of A. othonianum Rizz. seedlings produced in vitro.; O Anacardium othonianum Rizz....

The rational use of fruit species from Cerrado and the research about their nutritional potential are important to the socioeconomic development of the native regions from this ecosystem. The use of baru almond and caju-do-cerrado in healthier foods like granola encourages the inclusion of healthy regional foods into the diet. The aim of this study was to evaluate the physical and nutritional characteristics, microbiological quality, acceptability and stability of granola made with dried caju-do-cerrado and baru almonds. The caju-do-cerrado was subjected to osmotic dehydration and drying at 65 °C for 6 hours to obtain dried fruits. Granolas were prepared with 5%, 10% and 15% dried cajudo- cerrado and 10% of baru almonds, replacing the black raisins, cashew nuts and Brazil nuts of the control granola. The granolas were submitted to microbiological analysis and acceptance in laboratory. The most acceptable granola was evaluated by its proximate composition, minerals (calcium, iron, zinc, sodium, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus), water activity and texture, during 100 days of storage. The microbiological conditions of granolas were in accordance to the law. The granola with 10% dried caju-do-cerrado obtained the highest acceptance. Moreover...

The objective of this work is to study the phenological development of the arboreal cashew fruit from Cerrado (Anacardium othonianum Rizz) to collect biometrics data related to the growth of cashew trees, selecting early plants, both analyse the progress of the antracnosis disease (Colletotrichum gloeosporioides) and the severity caused in the plants, with the intention of contributing to the domestication of the species, in order that the extrativism can be avoided and to preserve it into its natural habitat. The initial material of this research is present in an specific area in where there are exclusively plants from arborous cashew fruit, that belong to a germoplasm collection in the area of the Agronomy School of the Federal University of Goiás - EA/UFG, in Goiânia, GO, in the geographical coordinates 16º35'12” of South latitude, 49º21'14” of longitude the West of Greenwich, and 730 m of altitude, which the cultivation was carried out in January of 2011, totalizing 546 plants originating from 182 plants-mothers. There were monthly obtained results related to the total height, and to the stem circumference to 10,0 cm of height of all the plants. The meteorological data was obtained in the Evaporimetric Station of First Class in operation at EA/UFG. The phenophasis were studied of foliage...
