The purpose of this article is to identify the attributes that discriminate the prices of personal desktop computers. We employ the hedonic price method in evaluating such characteristics. This approach allows market prices to be expressed as a function, a set of attributes present in the products and services offered. Prices and characteristics of up to 3,779 desktop personal computers offered in the IT pages of one of the main Brazilian newspapers were collected from January 2003 to December 2007. Several specifications for the hedonic (multivariate) linear regression were tested. In this particular study, the main attributes were found to be hard drive capacity, screen technology, main board brand, random memory size, microprocessor brand, video board memory, digital video and compact disk recording devices, screen size and microprocessor speed. These results highlight the novel contribution of this study: the manner and means in which hedonic price indexes may be estimated in Brazil.

In a dynamic atmosphere of competitiveness, customer satisfaction is a key factor in the long term success of a business relationship. From this perspective, the objective of the article was to evaluate the importance of attributes and customer satisfaction with Supermarkets in the Mid-Valley region of the ltajai/SC. Research methodology is characterized as descriptive, of the survey type, with a quantitative, cross section approach. The research instrument used was a questionnaire structured with open and closed questions, according to Lickert`s scale. By means of this, the degree of importance of supermarket attributes and the level of customer satisfaction with them were verified. In regard to the importance of the attributes, cleaning, parking, safety and variety of products are the most important, while the attributes Of purchase through the internet and taste samples are the least significant ones. The results of satisfaction point to the fact that the Supermarkets Big and Angeloni presented a greater degree of satisfaction in relation to the general average in practically all of the attributes, while Bistek presented the smallest degree of satisfaction, only surpassing the average in regard to the attribute of store lighting.

A crescente urbanização e suas externalidades, como o aumento dos congestionamentos e das emissões de poluentes resultantes da intensificação no uso dos veículos privados em áreas urbanas e a consequente queda no número de passageiros no transporte coletivo, justificam a realização de trabalhos voltados para aferir a percepção dos atributos do transporte coletivo. Os investimentos na melhoria do transporte coletivo devem estar focados não apenas naqueles que utilizam o transporte privado, mas também nos que são hoje clientes do transporte coletivo os quais podem migrar para o transporte privado motorizado. Busca-se, através deste trabalho, identificar os atributos que agregam valor aos sistemas de transporte coletivo urbano sobre pneus. Para isso, a partir da identificação e caracterização de várias qualidades dos sistemas de transporte coletivo, seis foram selecionadas para avaliação. Utilizou-se o método da Preferência Declarada aplicando questionários que ilustram viagens hipotéticas e permitem a avaliação conjunta dos atributos. Os questionários foram encaminhados aos entrevistados via internet, por meio de um software específico para este fim, de forma a garantir o anonimato das respostas. Através de regressão linear foi possível identificar os atributos julgados como mais importantes e que devem recebem maior atenção dos tomadores de decisão quando da destinação de recursos para a renovação do transporte coletivo sobre pneus no Brasil. A evolução da Análise Sensorial de uma ciência passiva para uma ciência pró-ativa foi resultado de inúmeros trabalhos cujo objetivo foi a busca pelo entendimento da aceitação do consumidor. Este foco foi denominado por MCBRIDE e MACFIE (1990) como a terceira geração da Análise Sensorial. Dentro deste foco, diversas abordagens já foram estudadas por autores, como análises de correlação e regressão de dados de aceitação, "slope index", Mapa de Preferência interno e Mapa de Preferência Externo. O entendimento da aceitação do consumidor nesta terceira geração veio de encontro com a elevada competitividade do mercado de alimentos, onde a oferta de novos itens aumenta a cada ano e demanda o desenvolvimento e lançamento de produtos com rapidez e eficiência. Diante da importância da necessidade de água para irrigação, torna-se imprescindível a conscientização do produtor rural com relação ao seu manejo racional, pois a irrigação tem sido apontada, ao longo das últimas décadas, como a grande consumidora de água. Diversos trabalhos têm mostrado que a prática do manejo racional da irrigação associada ao sistema plantio direto leva o agricultor a produzir igual ou até mais, em relação ao plantio convencional, com um menor consumo de água, evitando-se assim, o desperdício desse recurso, além de contribuir para o desenvolvimento de uma agricultura sustentável. Entretanto, dependendo do tempo, das condições de implantação e manejo do plantio direto, em muitas lavouras verificou-se um aumento do estado de compactação, com aumento de densidade do solo e da resistência mecânica à penetração, causando perda na produção. The objective of this work was to evaluate the relationship between soil chemical and biological attributes and the magnitude of cuts and fills after the land leveling process of a lowland soil. Soil samples were collected from the 0 - 0.20 m layer, before and after leveling, on a 100 point grid established in the experimental area, to evaluate chemical attributes and soil microbial biomass carbon (MBC). Leveling operations altered the magnitude of soil chemical and biological attributes. Values of Ca, Mg, S, cation exchange capacity, Mn, P, Zn, and soil organic matter (SOM) decreased in the soil profile, whereas Al, K, and MBC increased after leveling. Land leveling decreased in 20% SOM average content in the 0 - 0.20 m layer. The great majority of the chemical attributes did not show relations between their values and the magnitude of cuts and fills. The relation was quadratic for SOM, P, and total N, and was linear for K, showing a positive slope and indicating increase in the magnitude of these attributes in cut areas and stability in fill areas. The relationships between these chemical attributes and the magnitude of cuts and fills indicate that the land leveling map may be a useful tool for degraded soil recuperation through amendments and organic fertilizers.

A cultura da cana-de-açúcar encontra-se em forte expansão para a região do cerrado, necessitando de técnicas de manejo, visando à qualidade física do solo. O uso de dejetos de animais de criação intensiva constitui uma alternativa para reduzir a degradação física, baixar custo com adubações químicas e, sobretudo possibilitar uso sustentável dos dejetos que apresentam grande efeito poluidor. Assim, esta pesquisa teve como objetivo estudar o uso de dejetos “in natura” ou compostado como uma alternativa para minimizar os impactos negativos no solo, advindos do cultivo da cana, avaliando sua influência na estruturação do solo e em outros atributos físicos. A área da pesquisa localizou-se na Fazenda da Cia Mineira de Açúcar e Álcool do Triângulo Mineiro Ltda, município de Uberlândia–MG. A cafeicultura está em rápido desenvolvimento nas áreas de cerrado, as quais apresentam propriedades físicas do solo favoráveis ao desenvolvimento da cultura e a mecanização, porém, nessas áreas, os solos são muito intemperizados, naturalmente ácidos e de baixa fertilidade. Com a expansão da cultura, novos desafios foram incorporados, uma vez que o emprego de tecnologia e manejo correto torna-se fatores primordiais para a manutenção e aumento de produtividade e lucratividade. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar os atributos físicos do solo: densidade do solo, microporosidade, macroporosidade, porosidade total e agregação do solo através da estabilidade de agregados via úmida; e os atributos químicos: carbono orgânico total, cálcio e magnésio, submetidos a diferentes sistemas de manejo de plantas espontâneas em diferentes regiões (locais) de amostragem, na cultura do cafeeiro, através da estatística clássica e da geoestatística. Strawberry crop is an important option for small properties, being of great relevance for people fixation at countryside and generation and maintenance of rural jobs. Studies related to soil attributes monitoring, which can be used as soil quality indicators, are important to evaluate the sustainability of agricultural practices and to point to sound environment management, aiming to its conservation. This work intended to analyze the spatial and temporal variability of the chemical and microbiological soil attributes during the strawberry crop cycle in fourteen rural properties affiliated to the Association of Strawberry Producers of Turu??u-RS, to identify and evaluate the potential impacts of irrigation water on these attributes and to propose actions to minimize these impacts if needed. In this way, deformed soil samples were collected in four different periods at depth 0-0.20 m, to determine their chemical attributes (organic matter, active and potential acidity, CEC and at pH 7.0, base saturation and aluminum saturation), microbiological (carbon and nitrogen of microbial biomass, basal respiration and metabolic quotient) and about fertility (total nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, copper and zinc). The fruitculture is an important component of Brazilian agribusiness assuming prominence in the economy of the state of Rio Grande do Sul (RS). The municipality of Pelotas, located in the south part of RS state, is responsible for 90% of peach production having adequate conditions of climate and soil for its production. One of the main problems faced by fruit farmers is the management of the peach orchard, which has been homogeneously managed, without considering the spatial and temporal variability of soil, plant and climate attributes in the peach orchard. Therefore, some aspects deserve attention from researchers, among them we can highlight the knowledge of the physical environment in which the peach tree grows. This work had as objectives: i. to evaluate the relationship between soil hydric-physical and crop attributes through the canonical correlation analysis, ii. to determine the spatial and temporal structures of soil hydric-physical, crop and climate attributes, applying geostatistics analysis. A reliable student selection in nursing education programs is important to select the most suitable candidates not only as students but also as likely to pursue a career in nursing. In the last several years, the student selection of Bachelor of Nursing degrees have not been based solely on an academic performance, but also on a structured oral assessment. Although several evaluations of structured oral assessment have been undertaken, no reviewed study of structured oral assessment from the perspectives of the graduates nurse has been found. Evidence to improve processes of structured oral assesment is limited. In order to conduct a better structured oral assessment, further investigation in the structured oral assessment from graduate nurses perspectives is necessary. Therefore, this multi-method descriptive study aimed to explore graduates’ perceptions of the attributes explored during the structured oral assessment. Required attributes for successful completion of the Bachelor of nursing, and undertaking a career as a registered nurse were also explored. Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to determine the requirements of accounting graduates in relation to generic attributes. Employers have consistently maintained that graduates are deficient in this area. This Australia-wide, all-sector study addresses the issue by examining what employers mean when they make demands for universities and academics to deliver work-ready graduates. Design/methodology/approach – Interviews (recorded, transcribed and analysed with NVivo) with employers, and accounting professional bodies were conducted to ascertain their views of their needs of accounting graduates into the future. Findings – Employers held the generic attributes of communication, team work and self-management to be the most critical for graduates in the three areas of recruitment, training and ongoing employment. Demands on universities to deliver work-ready graduates are not homogeneous. Employers in different sectors construe the meaning of generic attributes in line with their specific needs. Originality/value – The study was an original piece of work that gauged the opinions of professional accounting bodies and employers of accounting graduates across Australia and in all sectors of the accounting profession. Individual farmers subjectively perceive the attributes of green agricultural innovations and their subsequent benefits. Qualifying this knowledge is important, but past efforts have largely been unsystematic. This systematic study assesses the structure of perceived attributes of sustainable agricultural practices. Through a survey of Malaysian vegetable farmers, the results of confirmatory factor analysis indicate that the most robust structure consists of four attributes. The four important attributes are relative advantage, compatibility, complexity and trialability. Among them, measures are required to link non-economic benefits to profitability to the attribute of relative advantage. Our work represents a guide to assist change agents to evaluate farmer perceptions at different locations systematically. Relationships among sensory attributes, compositional measures, and wine quality of Shiraz grapes and wines were evaluated for two seasons, 2009 to 2010 and 2010 to 2011. The sensory profiles of berries and wines were evaluated by descriptive analysis and wine quality was assessed by an expert panel. In this study, berry sensory attributes alone were better predictors of wine sensory and compositional variables than the combination of berry sensory and compositional variables. Partial least squares regression analysis and Pearson’s correlation revealed a negative relationship between seed bitterness and wine savory spice flavor in both seasons. In 2011, pulp detachment from the skin correlated with wine sensory attributes such as rim color, fresh dark berry flavor, savory spice flavor, and wine quality score. Correlations among wine sensory attributes, wine pigmented polymers, and wine total tannins were identified in both seasons. These findings are important for grape growers and winemakers as they identify berry sensory attributes that may assist as objective measures in predicting final wine style and quality.; Sandra M. Universities are increasingly seen to have both a research and a vocational training role. They have responded to this expectation by proclaiming the graduate attributes on their public websites. However, disciplines are also expected to develop their own graduate attributes and train students at them. For the discipline of chemistry in Australia, it is unclear how relevant these graduate attributes are to the different stakeholders of tertiary chemistry education: students, staff, and industries. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relevance of the graduate attributes to those three different stakeholders. Chemistry students and staff at the ANU, as well as industries in Canberra that employed chemists, were surveyed and interviewed and asked to rate the importance of and the student competence at the ANU graduate attributes for science. Results of this study showed that all stakeholder groups perceived the graduate attributes to be important, except some attributes were perceived more important than others - scientific analysis and problem solving were perceived as more important than communication, teamwork, and professionalism. O experimento foi conduzido na Faculdade de Zootecnia e Engenharia de Alimentos da Universidade de São Paulo (FZEA-USP) em área pertencente à Prefeitura do Campus Administrativo da USP, no município de Pirassununga, SP de março de 2002 a junho de 2003 em uma área experimental correspondendo a 16 piquetes de 35 m de largura e 90 m de comprimento (3150 m² cada – totalizando 5,04 ha), sendo que cada piquete foi dividido em oito sub-parcelas de 8,75 m de largura e 45 m de comprimento totalizando 150 m² de área útil por tratamento. The objective of this study was to determine what packaging based attributes most influence the purchasing decision of foodservice operators. The study was limited to those packaging attributes associated with minimally processed vegetables. A survey instrument was used to poll operators from various segments of the foodservice industry. Factor analysis was employed in an effort to identify attributes with degrees of communality. It was determined that attributes associated with the utility function of foodservice packages were of primary concern. These attributes were linked to the challenges of handling products in the foodservice environment. Factor loadings were significant on two other factors. These factors were linked to cost and control function of the package, and social issues associated with foodservice packaging.

Grouping objects that are described by attributes, or clustering is a central notion in data mining. On the other hand, similarity or relationships between attributes themselves is equally important but relatively unexplored. Such groups of attributes are also known as directories, concept hierarchies or topics depending on the underlying data domain. The similarities between the two problems of grouping objects and attributes might suggest that traditional clustering techniques are applicable. This thesis argues that traditional clustering techniques fail to adequately capture the solution we seek. It also explores domain-independent techniques for grouping attributes. The notion of similarity between attributes and therefore clustering in categorical datasets has not received adequate attention. This issue has seen renewed interest in the knowledge discovery community, spurred on by the requirements of personalization of information and online search technology. The problem is broken down into (a) quantification of this notion of similarity and (b) the subsequent formation of groups, retaining attributes similar enough in the same group based on metrics that we will attempt to derive. AbstractConsidering the lack of information about spatial behavior of the soil attributes in areas of archaeological black earth and native forest, the objective of this study was to evaluate the spatial variability of chemical attributes and determine the sampling density in soil with archaeological black earth and native forest in the region of Manicoré, AM. The study was conducted in a rural property located in the community of Santo Antônio do Matupi, at the margins of BR 230, Trans-amazon highway, in the region of Manicoré, AM. In these areas were established grids of 70 m x 70 m, with regular spacing of 10 x 10 m, totaling 64 points, then soil samples were collected at a depth of 0.0-0.20 m and 0 , 40 - 0,60 m. Chemical attributes were determined (pH, OM, P, K, Ca, Mg, SB, CTC, V% and H + Al). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques and geostatistics. Sampling density was determined basing on CV and on the range of the semivariograms. It was verified that the studied attributes showed spatial variability and the area of archaeological black earth presented greater spatial variability than the native forest. Its greater sampling density was determined basing on the range of the adjusted semivariograms.Keywords: Indian black earth; attributes of soil; geostatistics. 

Entrepreneurial attributes of undergraduate business students: a three country comparison revisited

In 2001/2002 a study was undertaken to establish whether significant differences existed between the levels of development of several entrepreneurial attributes, as perceived by undergraduate business students from three universities in three different countries. The rationale was that, if entrepreneurial attributes could be identified as more developed in one country than in another, solutions could be provided for developing these attributes in others. The primary objective of this study is to investigate and compare the levels of development of entrepreneurial attributes of undergraduate business students in the present study (2010) to the levels of development reported by undergraduate business students in the 2001/2002 study. Cronbach alpha coefficients were calculated to assess the reliability of the measuring instrument and t-tests to establish significant differences. Cohen's d statistics were calculated to establish practical significance. The findings suggest that the educational environment and entrepreneurship education policy of the Dutch university participating in this study could provide solutions as to how entrepreneurial attributes among students could be developed further.
