A conscientização sobre os riscos do uso de agrotóxicos tem levado ao aperfeiçoamento de sistemas orgânicos, no qual enquadra-se o morango e a alface. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da aplicação de preparados homeopáticos e das dinamizações sobre o morangueiro e a alface. Nos três experimentos com o morango utilizou-se a cultivar Oso Grande, sendo o primeiro em 2002/2003 e o segundo e o terceiro em 2003/2004. No primeiro experimento testou-se oito preparados homeopáticos na dinamização CH30, e no segundo, sete na CH100 em dois tipos de solo, Latossolo Vermelho Eutroférrico (LVef) e Neossolo Quartzarênico. Os tratamentos homeopáticos foram Antimonium tartaricum, Apis mellifica, Arnica montana, Carbo vegetabilis, Kali iodatum, Kali sulfuricum, Mercurius solubilis, Natrium phosphoricum, Pulsatilla nigricans e Silicea terra. A utilização de clones, que deveria ser uma vantagem experimental, se mostrou uma dificuldade, pois a distância entre as parcelas não permitiu o isolamento dos efeitos das homeopatias. Este fato evidenciou-se no primeiro experimento, no qual, a ausência do estímulo periódico que exercia influencia na variação ao acaso deixou de existir e o morangueiro pode “interiorizar” as informações das substâncias e refletir na produção de mudas. The invertebrate myosin filament: subfilament arrangement of the solid filaments of insect flight muscles.

Transverse sections (approximately 140 nm thick) of solid myosin filaments of the flight muscles of the fleshfly, Phormia terrae-novae, the honey bee, Apis mellifica, and the waterbug, Lethocerus uhleri, were photographed in a JEM model 200A electron microscope at 200 kV. The images were digitized and computer processed by rotational filtering. In each of these filaments it was found that the symmetry of the core and the wall was not the same. The power spectra of the images showed sixfold symmetry for the wall and threefold symmetry for the core of the filaments. The images of the filaments in each muscle were superimposed according to the sixfold center of the wall. These averaged images for all three muscles showed six pairs of subunits in the wall similar to those found in the wall of tubular filaments. From serial sections of the fleshfly filaments, we conclude that the subunits in the wall of the filaments represent subfilaments essentially parallel to the long axis of the filament. In each muscle there are additional subunits in the core, closely related to the subunits in the wall. Evaluation of serial sections through fleshfly filaments suggests that the relationship of the three subunits observed in the core to those in the wall varies along the length of the filaments. In waterbug filaments there are three dense and three less dense subunits for a total of six all closely related to the wall. Bee filaments have three subunits related to the wall and three subunits located eccentrically in the core of the filaments. The presence of core subunits can be related to the paramyosin content of the filaments.

1. The effect of high dilutions of two homeopathic drugs Lung histamine (Lung his) and Apis mellifica (Apis mel) used for the treatment of allergic diseases has been assessed on in vitro human basophil degranulation. Experiments were conducted blind. 2. Basophil degranulation induced by 1.66 X 10(-9) M anti-IgE antibody was significantly inhibited in the presence of 5 Lung his (5th centesimal dilution of Lung his) and 15 Lung his (15th centesimal dilution of Lung his) by 28.8% and 28.6% respectively and by 65.8% in the presence of 9 Apis mel (9th centesimal dilution of Apis mel). Basophil degranulation induced by 1.66 X 10(-16) to 1.66 X 10(-18) M anti-IgE antibody was also inhibited by high dilutions of Lung his and Apis mel with an inhibition of nearly 100% with 18 Lung his (18th centesimal dilution of Lung his) and 10 Apis mel (10th centesimal dilution of Apis mel). An alternance of inhibition, inactivity and stimulation was observed when basophils were incubated in the presence of serial dilutions of Lung his and Apis mel. 3. The investigation of the clinical efficacy of high dilutions of Lung his and Apis mel should be envisaged in allergic diseases in parallel with in vitro and ex vivo biological assays.

A biologia reprodutiva de Dipteryx alata foi estudada de setembro/2004 a agosto/2006. Dipteryx alata é arbórea, floresce na estação chuvosa (4-6 meses) e o pico de frutificação ocorre na estação seca. A espécie apresentou variação na intensidade de floração e frutificação entre os anos. As flores são zigomorfas, papilionáceas, hermafroditas, relativamente pequenas, odoríferas, diurnas e duram até 10 horas. O cálice possui dois lobos petalóides e a corola é formada pelo estandarte, alas e as pétalas da quilha. As anteras produzem pólen com 94,4% de viabilidade. O estigma é recoberto por película que limita a autopolinização espontânea, impedindo a aderência do pólen. Néctar é armazenado em câmara, em pequena quantidade (1,45 µL) e com concentração de 25%. Dipteryx alata tem flores de quilha e possui mecanismo de polinização intermediário entre os tipos explosivo e valvular. Esta espécie é alógama, possui auto-incompatibilidade de ação tardia e elevada taxa de aborto (ER = 0,45). Xylocopa suspecta (16,6% das visitas) é o principal polinizador, pois visita legitimamente as flores e apresenta forrageamento do tipo linha-de-captura, que promove fluxo polínico entre as plantas. IN connexion with an attempt to isolate pheromone from the queens of the honey bee, Apis mellifica L., an examination was carried out on the neutal portion of the extract obtained by perfusion of the powdered whole-bodies of the queens with ethanol and tert-butanol. By chromatographing the neutral portion on alumina, or silica gel, a crystalline substance, m.p. 138–145° C. [α]D = −31.6 ± 6° (c = 0.39 in chloroform), was obtained, which resembled cholesterol in behaviour and chemical properties. The Liebermann-Burchard reaction gave the same coloration as that obtained with cholesterol and the mixed melting point was the same. However, there were two bands (6.08µ and 11.33µ) in the infra-red spectrum of the substance which are not found in the spectrum of cholesterol and its derivatives. The same substance was isolated by similar means from worker bees. The constitution 1 for the sterol was elucidated from the following: An Oppenauer oxidation using cyclohexanone and aluminium isopropylate in toluene produced a conjugated unsaturated ketone; m.p. 77–84° C., λmax = 242 mµ, log ε = 4.0 calculated for C28H44O, 396.6. Besides, the double bond of the αβ-unsaturated ketone function, a second double bond was present as shown by titration with bromine (1.155 mgm. of substance used...

In certain brain parts of queen bees, 2 and 3 years old, a defective tissue is found that, in bilateral structures also occurs symmetrically. The cavities can reach 0.0015 mm3 of volume, this size being found almost exclusively in the nuclear parts. Very seldom there are comparatively small lacunas in the fibrillar tissue. In these investigations the corpora pedunculata (mushroom bodies) - the place of associative functions - showed no signs of degeneration in the cup sphere. This divergent behaviour of the superior centres is in accordance with already know statements.

Under honeydew flow conditions, honeybee colonies with queens of defined origin proved to be especially liable to paralysis. The tendency was irrespective to the mating drone. The observation suggest a matrocline heredity of the honeybee. The liability for the disease is considered to be a symptom of inbreeding. The worker bees' behaviour towards those bees that had died of paralysis on the combs in the hive is described.

The valve-fold of the queen honeybee is an epithe1ian fold of the ventral vaginal wall which is interlaced with ascending muscle fibres. The valve-fold projects into the lumen of the vagina like a tongue-shaped roll just behind the caudal end of the median oviduct and directly above the sternal antecosta of the VII. segment. Opinions about the function of this fold are dlsagreeing. A short description of the histological structure of the valve-fold is given. Furthermore, reference is made to a premature, progressive degeneration and calcification of the valve-fold's musculature in most of the queen honeybees, dependent on age. In discussions concerning the function of the valve-fold, these causally not clarified degeneration processes must be considered.

Honeybee brain extracts were subjected to a procedure of analysis on paper involving electrophoresis at two pH values, bidimensional chromatography and development with various reagents. This led to the identification of 18 aminoacids, a peptide (glutathione), a hydroacid (isethionic acid) and showed the presence of other as yet unidentified compounds : some aminoacids (one of which contained sulphur), some peptides, a guanidinic compound, one or more basic compounds reacting with ninhydrin, and one or more organic bases. An ion exchange chromatographic analysis substantially confirmed the results obtained on paper, and gave quantitative data on the individual aminoacids before and after hydrolysis. These results are discussed in relation to the data avaible from the literature on the aminoacid content of mammalian and invertebrate nervous tissue.

On étudie ici les régulations nombreuses survenant autour des cellules d'un rayon de cire d'Apis mellifica, lorsqu'une destruction partielle ou totale y a été pratiquée, lorsqu'un obstacle quelconque y est inséré. 1° On note que les irrégularités de cellules sont généralement éliminées d'une façon rapide par les nombreuses abeilles qui visitent sans cesse les cellules : les insectes sont capable de percevoir rapidement les faibles variations de l'épaisseur et de la rugosité des cloisons. 2° Les abeilles bouchent facilement les orifices, même important , percés dans les fonds ou dans les parois des alvéoles et se servent pour cela de cire vierge et de cire récupérée sur les rayons (cf. au si MEYER). Les reconstructions se divisent toujours en deux temps : a) apport des matériaux informes sur les parties détruites; b) sculpture de l'ensemble par raclage des mandibules. 3° Les cellules écrasée sont réparées beaucoup moins vite. Les abeilles détruisent d'abord les parois anormales, puis les reconstruisent. Cependant, lorsque l'écrasement a été très important, les rayons, établis sur les fonds des cellules d'ouvrières, présentent de nombreuses cellules de colmatage, et les rayons, rebâtis sur les fonds des cellules de mâles...

L'étude au microscope électronique du muscle alaire de l'Abeille Apis mellifica nous a permis d'apporter certaines précisions sur l'ultrastucture de ce muscle. En particulier nous avons pu étudier les connexions existant entre les filaments primaires et la strie Z, en l'absence de bande I. Les muscles ont été fixés au tétroxyde d'osmium, déshydratés à l'alcool éthylique et inclus dans l'araldite selon la technique de Glauert et Glauert (11). Les coupes minces ont été effectuées au microtome Porter Blum et colorées à l'acide phosphotungstique en solution alcoolique durant 5 mn. Les clichés ont été pris au microscope RCA EMU-3C.
