O objetivo principal deste trabalho é propor algoritmos para identificação de series temporais e de sistemas lineares multivariáveis estocásticos variantes no tempo no espaço de estado. Para isto primeiramente investigamos fundamentos teóricos, apresentando alguns conceitos básicos de series temporais, sistemas, elementos de identificação, modelos no espaço de estado e identificação variante no tempo. Dois algoritmos são propostos, analisados e implementados, o que chamamos MOESP-AOKIVAR baseado no MOESP (Multivariable Output-Error State space) e o que chamamos AOKI-VAR baseado no algoritmo proposto por Masanao Aoki. Os algoritmos são avaliados sobre "benchmarks". Dissertação de mestrado integrado em Engenharia Civil; O principal propósito da presente dissertação é avaliar o espaço urbano/público, atendendo a alguns fatores que condicionam a mobilidade e acessibilidade pedonal, tendo em conta a perspetiva das pessoas com mobilidade reduzida. Assim, por um lado, pretende-se efetuar uma abordagem da definição geral sobre o espaço urbano/público e a sua evolução, permitindo a perceção do estado de deterioração de alguns ‘‘pedaços’’ das nossas cidades. Por outro lado, pretende-se descobrir, no âmbito da realidade portuguesa, qual o decreto de lei em vigor no que diz respeito a mobilidade pedonal de uma parte da população, as pessoas com mobilidade reduzida. We are developing a covariant model for all mesons that can be described as quark-antiquark bound states in the framework of the Covariant Spectator Theory (CST) in Minkowski space. The kernel of the bound-state equation contains a relativistic generalization of a linear confining potential which is singular in momentum space and makes its numerical solution more difficult. The same type of singularity is present in the momentum-space Schrödinger equation, which is obtained in the nonrelativistic limit. We present an alternative, singularity-free form of the momentum-space Schrödinger equation which is much easier to solve numerically and which yields accurate and stable results. The same method will be applied to the numerical solution of the CST bound-state equations.

Mestrado em Gestão; This thesis analyzes the complex problem of an efficient space allocation in shopping centers in the presence of inter-store externalities. In doing so, we exploit a comprehensive and unique dataset extending for a period of three consecutive years, to confirm that anchors generate positive externalities by increasing the sales of non-anchor stores and, in turn, non-anchor stores pay for those benefits through higher rents. Taking this into account, the developer should allocate space to the various stores in order to maximize the center turnover and retailer profits. The carried out empirical analysis shows that, on average, anchor stores have more space provided, higher volume of sales, and lower rents to pay. Specifically, „restaurant‟ and „cinema‟ types of anchors contribute to an increase on non-anchor sales and, simultaneously, the former also provides an increase on non-anchor stores rent. The presence of a dental contact point is essential to maintain normal occlusion and to preserve the health of periodontal structures. Occasionally dental caries could compromise the interproximal contact point, leading to migration of the adjacent teeth with consequent retention of food, gingival inflammation, pocket formation, bone loss and dental mobility. In order to achieve an adequate restorative treatment, reestablishment of interproximal space is necessary. This report describes the interproximal space recovery between the maxillary first and second molars of a 45-year-old female patient before tooth reconstruction. In this case, an orthodontic elastic separator was indicated as an alternative to fixed orthodontic appliances in order to recover the necessary space. The technique was proven efficient, effective, economical, easy to perform and, above all, less invasive than other methods. The interproximal space was regained and a ceramic onlay was cemented for restoring the maxillary second molar. Periodical clinical and radiographic follow-up should be maintained to ensure long-term success.

In this work, simulation of the singly charged argon ion trajectories for a variable plasma meniscus is studied with and without space charge for the triode extraction system by using SIMION 3D (Simulation of Ion Optics in Three Dimensions) version 7 personal computer program. The influence of acceleration voltage applied to the acceleration electrode of the triode extraction system on the shape of the plasma meniscus has been determined. The plasma electrode is set at +5000 volt and the acceleration voltage applied to the acceleration electrode is varied from -5000 volt to +5000 volt. In the most of the concave and convex plasma shapes, ion beam emittance can be calculated by using separate standard deviations of positions and elevations angles. Ion beam emittance as a function of the curvature of the plasma meniscus for different plasma shapes ( flat, concave and convex ) without space charge at acceleration voltage varied from -5000 volt to +5000 volt applied to the acceleration electrode of the triode extraction system has been investigated. The influence of the extraction gap on ion beam emittance for a plasma concave shape of 3.75 mm without space charge at acceleration voltage, Vacc = -2000 volt applied to the acceleration electrode of the triode extraction system has been determined. During mechanical preparation of the post space, the root canal filling may be twisted or vibrated, depending on several factors associated with the preparation technique and quality of filling. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of immediate and delayed post space preparation on the integrity of the apical seal. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Sixty-four extracted human incisors were biomechanically prepared using the step-back technique. Sixty roots were randomly assigned to 6 experimental groups of 10 teeth each and the remaining 4 roots served as positive and negative controls (n=2). The root canals in the different groups were obturated with cold lateral and warm vertical condensation of gutta-percha and one of two sealers (Sealapex and Diaket). Post space was prepared either individually or simultaneously. An insulated copper wire was cut into 10-cm-long pieces. In each canal, one piece was inserted to maintain contact with gutta-percha and extended to the outside as one of two working electrodes. A stainless steel wire with the same dimensions of those of the copper wire, used as the other working electrode, was immersed into the background electrolyte from the center of the bottle. The electrical current between standard and experimental electrodes in canals was measured over a period of 10 days applying a conductivity meter. The Kruskal-Wallis test (p=0.05) determined whether there was a significant difference in microleakage among the groups and the Mann-Whitney U test (p=0.01) was used for multiple comparison grouping variables. RESULTS: The results suggest that only the differences between the root canal filling techniques were statistically significant (p<0.01). There were no statistically significant difference in the sealers and the times of filling removal for post space preparation (p>0.01). CONCLUSION: The quality of the root canal filling is important for the integrity of the apical seal.

One major issue concerning investigations of visual perception is determination of the geometrical properties of visual space. To address this issue, one must determine the relationships between geometrical features of visual space, distance, direction, angle, and size. Consistent evidence indicates that visual angle is a determinant of perceived exocentric distance. Previous evidence suggests that exocentric distance and direction are hierarchically processed, with distance preceding direction. The present study investigated the relationship between the perceptual processing of egocentric direction and exocentric direction using a task that independently provides both perceptual variables in a single judgment. The results indicated that egocentric directions were systematically overestimated, and this was not caused by either the global shape of the layout or leg length effects. Exocentric directions presented a discontinuous pattern of overestimation of smaller angles that were subtended by radial orientations and accuracy of right angles that were subtended by horizontal orientations. This could be explained by the anisotropy of visual space, a well-established phenomenon from visual space studies. One of the most debated choices in every social research design is the adoption of either a realist (objective) or an idealist (subjective) worldview of sociological problems. As argued in this paper, this dichotomy can be bridged by the dialectical approach of historical space production according to Marxist traditions in human geography. Therefore, this paper explores the philosophical grounds of this debate and previous attempts to conciliate the dichotomy and finally proposes a rejection of this dichotomy by adopting the categories of ‘space’ and ‘time’ as central in organizational analysis. Space is a historical production of social relations, and the same relations are defined in terms of their surrounding space. Thus, organization studies can benefit from a spatial view of organizations to overcome epistemological constraints by interpreting organizations as historically produced and producers of their spatial context.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to identify the procedures adopted by Brazilian orthodontists in the following situations: extraction space closure, anchorage control in case of necessary anchorage for group A and frequency of skeletal anchorage use, especially in the upper jaw. METHOD: A questionnaire was sent to the e-mail address of all dentists registered in the Brazilian Federal Council of Dentistry. RESULTS: The results showed that most Brazilian orthodontists usually perform extraction space closure by means of sliding mechanics. The use of palatal bar, inclusion of second molars in the archwire and space closure performed in two phases are the most used techniques for anchorage control in the upper jaw. The skeletal anchorage is referenced by 36.5% of specialists as a routine practice for the upper jaw anchorage. CONCLUSIONS: There is a wide variety of procedures adopted by Brazilian orthodontists for orthodontic space closure and anchorage control.

In this report, sex/gender research relevant to reproduction on Earth, in conjunction with the extant human and animal observations in space, was used to identify knowledge gaps and prioritize recommendations for future sex- and gender-specific surveillance and monitoring of male and female astronauts. With overall increased durations of contemporary space missions, a deeper understanding of sex/gender effects on reproduction-related responses and adaptations to the space environment is warranted to minimize risks and insure healthy aging of the men and women who travel into space.

This article is part of a larger body of work entitled, “The Impact of Sex and Gender on Adaptation to Space.” It was developed in response to a recommendation from the 2011 National Academy of Sciences Decadal Survey, “Recapturing a Future for Space Exploration: Life and Physical Sciences for a New Era,” which emphasized the need to fully understand sex and gender differences. In this article, our workgroup—consisting of expert scientists and clinicians from academia and the private sector—investigated and summarized the current body of published and unpublished human research performed to date related to sex- and gender-based differences in behavioral adaptations to human spaceflight. This review identifies sex-related differences in: (1) sleep, circadian rhythms, and neurobehavioral measures; (2) personality, group interactions, and work performance and satisfaction; and (3) stress and clinical disorders. Differences in these areas substantially impact the risks and optimal medical care required by space-faring women. To ensure the health and safety of male and female astronauts during long-duration space missions, it is imperative to understand the influences that sex and gender have on behavioral health changes occurring during spaceflight.

Background: In disease surveillance, the prospective space-time permutation scan statistic is commonly used for the early detection of disease outbreaks. The scanning window that defines potential clusters of diseases is cylindrical in shape, which does not allow incorporating into the cluster shape potential factors that can contribute to the spread of the disease, such as information about roads, landscape, among others. Furthermore, the cylinder scanning window assumes that the spatial extent of the cluster does not change in time. Alternatively, a dynamic space-time cluster may indicate the potential spread of the disease through time. For instance, the cluster may decrease over time indicating that the spread of the disease is vanishing. Methods: This paper proposes two irregularly shaped space-time permutation scan statistics. The cluster geometry is dynamically created using a graph structure. The graph can be created to include nearest-neighbor structures, geographical adjacency information or any relevant prior information regarding the contagious behavior of the event under surveillance. Results: The new methods are illustrated using influenza cases in three New England states, and compared with the cylindrical version. A simulation study is provided to investigate some properties of the proposed arbitrary cluster detection techniques. Conclusion: We have successfully developed two new space-time permutation scan statistics methods with irregular shapes and improved computational performance. The results demonstrate the potential of these methods to quickly detect disease outbreaks with irregular geometries. This paper presents a method for crowd simulation based on a biologically motivated space colonization algorithm. This algorithm was originally introduced to model leaf venation patterns and the branching architecture of trees. It operates by simulating the competition for space between growing veins or branches. Adapted to crowd modeling, the space colonization algorithm focuses on the competition for space among moving agents. Several behaviors observed in real crowds, including collision avoidance, relationship of crowd density and speed of agents, and the formation of lanes in which people follow each other, are emergent properties of the algorithm. The proposed crowd modeling method is free-of-collision, simple to implement, robust, computationally efficient, and suited to the interactive control of simulated crowds.

Nondeterministic Turing acceptors can be viewed as probabilistic acceptors with errors that are one-sided but not significantly bounded. In his seminal work on resource-bounded probabilistic Turing machines, Gill showed how to transform such a machine to one that does have a good error bound, at only modest cost in space usage. We describe a simpler transformation that incurs absolutely no cost in space usage. If we change each probabilistic transition to a nondeterministic one, then we get a space-preserving transformation in the opposite direction as well, assuming the definitions are right. Thus the complexity classes are exactly the same, and we have the same space-bound hierarchy for bounded-one-sided-error probabilistic computation that we have for nondeterministic computation. Similarly, we have the same number-of-heads complexity classes and hierarchy for bounded-one-sided-error probabilistic multihead finite automata as for nondeterministic ones.

Our broad objective is to establish the mechanisms responsible for motion selectivity in receptive fields (RFs) of striate cortical neurons in the cat, especially the order and nature of transformations leading to directional selectivity (DS). Examination of both RFs and models with briefly flashed single and double light and dark bars helps establish the advantage of 2-bar interaction-measurements for studying the separability between space and time in early filtering operations in the visual system. These early filters are usually smaller than a cortical RF, and form "subunits" of the RF that may or may not show latency variations across space. Such latency shifts define space-time inseparable subunits. We embed bars in a random "white-noise" stimulus to better explore negative response regions, and to compare linear and nonlinear measurements using the same stimulus. Two-bar interactions preserve inseparability at the expense of phase of the subunits tested. Here we develop a quantitative measure of space-time inseparability in subunits using singular value decomposition (SVD), and apply it to 2-bar subunit measurements of two competing models and of both DS simple and complex cells. SVD provides an estimate of the minimal number of temporal functions but not their actual shape. DS complex cells show evidence of multiple inseparable subunits...

In 1988 the old North of Goiás starts to belong to the State of Tocantins by act of the National Constituent Assembly. After long political arena of the creation of the State, immediately the geopolitical dispute of the setting of the Capital´s final site starts. In deciding the location of the Capital, on the right bank of the Tocantins river, near Porto Nacional, it triggers a series of problems: the inevitable loss of population and the emptying of a good part of the tasks that Porto Nacional held on the region before are simply emptied into the Capital. Thus, from a regional hegemonic position, it becomes the peripheral area of the Capital. Added to this problem, other impacts are befalling the city from the construction of the Luiz Eduardo Magalhaes or Lajeado Hydroelectric Power Station, as it is better known. At this time the seasonal tourism economy of the beach, in a short space of time, fails into decadence. This research intends to show two visions on the space of the city in the poetry produced in Goiás. For such, will be boarded Poems of the alleys of Goiás and hystory more (1965), of Cora Coralina and Poems and chose (1953), of José Décio Filho. A survey of the poetical images and the used linguistic resources in poems will be made, with the objective to evidence the look that each poet launches on the similar space that involves them - the city. They are about looks that if they sharpen with the aesthetic modernist and that they are thematically convergent for sending to the city. In this direction, it will be looked to point out the constituent relation of the poets with the cities sung in its poetry. Horseradish peroxidase (HRP) was used as a CSF tracer in Sprague-Dawley rats. One group of rats received an injection of HRP in the cisterna magna and a second group was injected in the thoracic spinal subarachnoid space. The animals were sacrificed 0, 10 or 30 min after HRP injection by rapid perfusion with paraformaldehyde and glutaraldehyde. In both groups, there was rapid HRP labeling of brain and spinal cord perivascular spaces. HRP was present in the central canal in a pattern that was not consistent with flow from the fourth ventricle: in both groups there were segments of unlabeled central canal between the fourth ventricle and central canal segments containing HRP. HRP-labeled perivascular spaces were seen in the central gray matter adjacent to the central canal. There was a distinctive pattern of interstitial HRP between perivascular spaces and the central canal. The results suggest that there is a normal flow of fluid from the subarachnoid space, into the perivascular spaces, across the interstitial space and into the central canal. The function of this flow may be to clear metabolites from the interstitial space. The existence of such a flow would add considerable support to the theory that non-communicating syringomyelia develops in segments of central canal isolated by occlusion or stenosis at each end.
